Re: Buying a kit plane from the states
Thanks for the reply. This is a new kit unfinished.I could pick it up at Sonex in Oshkosh but then I have to pay Wisconsin state taxes which would be more that the shipping costs. That is how I brought the tail kit home but I was there to take the workshop anyway so paying the state taxes was incident...

Buying a kit plane from the states
Hi all.I am buying a kit plane from Sonex(a Onex) and was wondering what the procedure was for importing the kit. ie;How will it clear customs.I understand I will have to pay HST here in Ontario but am I supposed to find a customs agent or would it be sent to what I believe is called a bonded wareho...

Re: Turnback
There is this thing called a glider. It is towed into the air by using a rope to pull it. Sometimes the rope breaks. Sometimes the rope breaks at low altitude. As a result, low-time glider pilots are experts at the turnback: http://www.glider.org/SafetyCorner/TowPilotDocuments/07-02SimulatedOrActua...

Re: Turnback
Hedley you just don't get it. It's not about the physics of the turnback. It's about the psychology of the human psyche.Every pilot that died turning back at a low altitude understood what a stall was . Every pilot understood that when you are in a turn that the stall speed increased, turn even tight...

[quote="Hedley"]I might mention that Rich Stowell has plenty to learn yet. He just wrote an article for the IAC magazine during which he claimed to experience -4.5G in a Pitts S-2B during an inverted spin, which is complete nonsense - he was doing outside snaps on the way down, and didn't know it. T...

Re: Turnback
Hedley, It's impossible and you'll die. People on AvCanada say so... I made that argument a while a go and even brought up some calculations to prove my point. People were still saying it was not possible..... If you never practiced it, sure don't try it. However with some practice, it's easy to ma...

Don't get me wrong,if your confident enough to perform that maneuver that's great, but as the above poster asked ,what is your point? The one thing I had drilled into me as a student a long long while ago is DON'T ever attempt what you just explained.A would guess that 90% of all pilots here would nev...

Re: T-hangar plans
Bede - There's no real value in building a T hangar. You've got to build more walls, more corners and a complicated roof-line. The only marginal material-saving is in the roof trusses & roofing tin. You'll be money, time and space ahead if you just build a square building the size you need. Also ve...

Re: Training aircraft condition
To me it doesn't matter how ratty an airplane looks as long as I'm not charged a premium hourly rate.I have flown a pristine looking 150 for $117/hr and not so pretty one for $100/hr. They both were mechanically sound but I rent the not so pretty one all the time now(different FBO).At the end of my ...

So if the old time instructors were so good how come the GA fatal accident rate in 1950 was 4 times what it was today ? http://planecrashinfo.com/cause.htm These figures and your figures don't jive.4 X just seemed excessive .Can you back it up with any proof or did you round up a wee bit too much :...

No your time as an M1/M2 was not the point but it does lend an indication to your propensity for exaggeration(It doesn't mean your lying) .Sorry to be so hard on you but your unwillingness to help your fellow M1/M2's other than to tell them the obvious(Go out and see the world)just pisses me off. well for starters im not going to tell you where i live, that would defeat the purpose of people going out there and trying new countries. if i just tell you then everyone will apply here and there are so many places that are just as good, it pays to shop around. i make about 80K a year with 4 week...

Re: Who is moving to Windsor (YQG)?
Why Windsor? The city has a better supply of skilled trades than almost any other suitable location -- people who already have journey-man's tickets in the metal, mechanical and electrical skilled trades required. Perfect...they have someone to maintain the hangar...Does Windsor have the talent to ...

Just a guess but for a contrail to form you must have moisture .We have all witnessed high flying jets that produce no contrails ergo no moisture present. To me it would be a heads-up to possible future weather expectations.?

Re: Training flights with two students onboard: is it worth
The idea that there is greater risk because of the third man doesn't hold water.Thats like saying the captain and first officer would be safer if there were no passengers on their airline. The third or 73rd passenger has no bearing on the outcome of the flight other than to add more weight and as lo...

Mike, Thanks for your interest in the iFly 700. We are currently initiating a relationship with Nav Canada. We hope to be able to offer a Canadian Data option very soon. We are now waiting on them and will proceed quickly once we have the ball. Canada is our most requested country and thus our initi...

I haven't used it, but the FAQ says it doesn't include Canadian charts or data. Does this unit include maps of Canada? Answer: Currently only U.S. maps and data are available on the iFly 700 I really wish Nav Canada would adopt a more open approach to data like the US government does. There have be...

Adventure Pilot GPS
Anyone here have any experience with the Adventure Pilot GPS?It appears after watching the video that it was designed for the average joe like me who fly's for fun and the famous $100 hamburger. The $500 price tag is also appealing. http://www.adventurepilot.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xqFm...
