Re: Direct to mainline WestJet
It seems to me that to get to a major these days, your best chance by far is to go through one of their subsidiary/express carriers (ie. Encore/Jazz). I would think that almost everyone hired directly at Westjet mainline these days has 705/military time.

Re: FPML
With this sort of agreement in place, would one be better off targeting companies like CMA, Porter, EIC, Pasco, etc. to try get 705 captain time, rather than going to Jazz, Air Georgian, Sky Regional?

Re: Canadian North Hiring
pilotdude86, I see the point you're trying to make; however, the practice of posting only the minimum requirements for a job then selecting from the best of the candidates, producing a competitive minimum if you will, is not exclusive to Canadian North. You'll see this at pretty much any job, school...

Re: Best Company For New CPL in YYC
Please explain to me what low-time pilots can do to better their situation. The number of direct entry flying jobs is very small, with the exception of instructing of course. The majority of positions require a period of time on the ramp or dock before making flightline. That's the reality, no hopin...

Re: Best Company For New CPL in YYC
Enjoy your ramp jobs, you whiny, snivelling little people! I guess you'd rather come on here and bitch about it than do anything to change it, a common trait I've noticed amongst the older generation. The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. These issues were and are fix...

Re: May 1 startup day Air Georgian
It is sad. From what I hear it's a real s*%@ show over at GGN right now. Interesting to see how it all plays out. If pilots said no to this crap it would stop tomorrow. Of course that won't happen. Unfortunately, low-time pilots don't really have much leverage given their supply is so much greater ...

Illya, I interpreted Diadem's post as a means to point out the other side of the argument, rather than a personal attack. To preface, the rest of my post isn't aimed directly Illya; simply everyone with similar mindsets. Unfortunately, our generation (the younger generation) was raised into a system...

Re: Go Back Home!
Please don't confuse military flight training with what happens at a civilian flight school. The purpose of my post was merely to point out that in the right training environment, hand-picked low-time pilots can be trained to a very high level of competency. As for the rest of your comment, I agree...

Re: Are they lying to us Gilles?
Let's assume for a second that Gilles was in fact paid by AT to prove that a competing company was using unfair business practices to gain an advantage over the market. How is this any different from business hiring an antitrust lawyer for a similar purpose? Bottom line, this argument is hugely irre...

PIC is great but solo or single pilot is even better when your starting out, you'll be forced to make all the decisions. Who under 1000hrs is flying dual as PIC anyway, except maybe instructors? As for the 200hr argument, the military seems to do a fairly good job of training low-time pilots and pl...

Maybe there were concerns over high terrain?
Otherwise, if they'd simply inputed direct to Langkawi, the end result would've been the same, while their track would've put them close to the aforementioned waypoints.

I don't see why an electrical fire should be entirely out of the question. Let's assume for a second that an electrical fire was indeed onboard MAS370. Although the schematics for the B772 aren't available online, I'd assume the ACARS system, transponder, and communication systems are all located fa...

Re: Sunwing and CYVO ARCAL
Well said Rogerdodger2 and lelantos, I too think we should continue to allow foreign pilots, who evidently don't know Canadian airport procedures and regulations, to illegally work in Canada and take Canadian jobs.
