Re: Regarding AME Shortage

I've been in this for almost 35 years now, and this is the worst I've seen it. I don't see a recovery anytime soon. If there was someplace else to go, I'd take it and not look back.

Got let go a few weeks ago. Waiting for something to happen. Anything. Anywhere. Haven't seen it this bad since the 80's.

Re: CAR 571.07 interpretation !!!

If you're installing an electrical item such as a switch, breaker, diode, which is commercially available under the same part number listed in the Parts Catalogue, you do not need a Form 1 for that part, just a traceability of where you got it from.

Re: CAR 571.07 interpretation !!!

I did not see that statement in 571.07: Installation of new parts. 571.07 Installation of New Parts Information Note: The definitions of ‘commercial part’ and ‘standard part’ set out in Subpart 101 of the CARs apply to this Standard and are reproduced below for convenience only. Re: Working on a C registered aircraft in the states

I've crossed the border to work on US registered aircraft, and with Canadian registered aircraft.

You're not taking work away from an American, you're working on your own aircraft, not somebody elses.

Re: E license after M training

I worked with an M licensed AME who went back to school for E license training. I also know an E licensed guy who is working hangar maintenance towards his M license. If a person gets both M1 and M2 licenses, you are automatically qualified to sign out S and E work as well. However, your AMO not rec...

Re: Is there really a shortage of aircraft mechanic in Canada?

There's a shortage of 'experienced and qualified' AME's. How to get to that point is a bit of a struggle.

Re: AME Associations

I've been a member for over 20 years. Used to attend all the trade shows, training seminars.
Last few years, been watching the membership drop right off, trade shows cancelled due to lack of interest, etc.
Don't know why. It appears AMEs are giving up on anyone trying to speak on our behalf.

If you notice an intermittent vibration, please report that. It can lead to a worse vibration if left unchecked.

Re: Top Paid AMEs

There's never any mention of the helicopter side of things either. And extremely tough to give a blanket answer, with variables such as bush pay and flight pay. The smaller outfits tend to pay better than the bigger outfits, with less overhead.

Re: Free Money Management Advice.

1) Work OT. That's a good point, but right now my kids are young and I'm on track financially so why work so hard, giving half my money to the government, I would like to point out that we have a progressive tax rate in Canada, and I don't believe anyone in aviation is ever going to be paying 'half...

Re: PRM+other hat's for $30 a/hr??

I'm in the lower mainland. It's not for me, but there's lots getting paid peanuts on the fixed wing side that will jump at that.
I've seen lots of ads over the years that make you shake your head, but someone always ends up taking these positions.

Re: Stickies aren’t going to get you employees.

Maybe someone who is an AME could let us know what their average salary might be in the initial stages after getting their licenses
On the helicopter side, an apprentice right out of school will make around $17/hour. Moving up to about $24/hour in 2 years when licensed.

One of the things I also do, as an AME, is record when the last inspection was carried out.
