Re: DOH merge.

I am at Rouge and have been for about 4 years. I work less days per year than my ML counter parts and earn more money than them (compared with ML friends). I have the ability to get most days off that I want, and can "generally" choose the kind of flying I want. If your priority is time off at home...

Re: DOH merge.

I think the issue going forward is how fractured the AC group is, and how entrenched they are into their own camps. My camp is to spend time with the wife and kids. I am at Rouge and have been for about 4 years. I work less days per year than my ML counter parts and earn more money than them (compar...

Re: Perimeter Sanny accident report

I would like some mature conversation on whether pilots who duck things up this poorly should be charged criminally. Continuing the flight without IFR approach charts? Sure their alternate crapped out, but they did not call YWG or YXU radio for updates? In my opinion these guys could have a case arg...

Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training

I agree that this is mostly a personal finance type post that a flying one. At the end of the day you need to start getting some more cash flow. If I were you, I'd probably get a second job (perhaps work in a bar/restaurant as the tips can go far as cash) and spend the next 6 months living frugally ...

Re: Have questions for YYZ Tower? Ask them here!

I am curious how you guys come up with runway assignments. It has not happened much in the last 6 months (I've noticed a huge improvement) but prior to that there would be two runways designated on the D-ATIS and about 50% of the time (or so it seemed) the third runway is what we would get. In the A...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011

F*cking brutal. That captain essentially killed his FO and the passengers and FAs in the back. The FO was being fairly deliberate in his wording to no avail. Short of grabbing the thrust levers himself by the sounds of it he made several recommendations to go around. Absolutely tragic, further more ...

Wouldn't WS cover that for you? Or do they give you some $$ I you cancel the booking?

Re: Recent WESTJET Pilot openings

Westjet is not about experience or what you know nearly as much as who you know. If you "really" want that Westjet job, get a part time there and try and get seen positively and get to know some of the pilots. Get some internal references and you'd get a much better chance. It's not like AC, AT, QK ...

Re: Anyone fancy a Virgin?

Exactly what we need, more competition.... Good way to ensure more people are stuck at an entry level contract is to keep popping up airlines when ever the competitor's average employee gets to around the 10 year mark. Easy to undercut and continue the cycle!

Re: More foreign pilots on work permits elsewhere

I know at some flight schools around the country they try and get jobs for international students after they complete their CPL and instructor rating. The argument for is the ability to speak the language many of the students speak as native tongue. I've seen job ads posted specifically with someone...

Re: Seniority System ...

I wonder though with the LCC starting up and the "socialized" bidding system if there will be a push in 5 years or so to adopt the same at mainline. Seniority benefits the top 10% of block holders and 10% of reserve holders. Interesting to see what will happen in the next little while.

One would hope if WS became the national carrier in Canada they would stop with the jokes and take themselves a tad more seriously.

Make sure you can get a red pass. I know someone who had charges dismissed who had a difficult time with a red pass (not even sure if he received one).

Re: A New Leaf

Rocky, Do you honestly believe that when you retire (for me it will be >30 years) the company will still be toping up your DB pension? The way I look at it the DC pension is best for all new hires (as long as you are relatively young and can invest it!) I am not sure about you but the way I see it k...

For what it's worth I heard that the ratio of other Tier flying to AC flying is 29:100 which is very similar to what it is right now. How can they outsource much more without expanding mainline?

Re: New Contract thread

I understand there have been some concessions but what are they? The new pension sounds WAY better to a new hire than the old one. After 5 years the company will match your contributions to 175%!!!! Lets say you're 30 you have 30 years to compound that retirement fund, and that's ignoring the people...

Re: parents of common law..to employee

Not saying it's true in this case however this must be said. Airlines have had a serious problem with having these privileges being abused in the past. The reality is people who are not very familiar with the stand by policies. These can be stressfull for the employees using them let alone for someo...

Unbelievable how it goes eh? I have a degree, between 1000 and 1500 of >12.5K, >1500 PIC of which a good portion is Multi Turbine. Interviewed close to a month ago and no call. Anyone get a PFO or a Medical recently? When did you do your Interview?
