Sorry, my fault. I did not realize there were cell phone pings at Fidelity into the evening.

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

Does anyone know which cell towers his phone was detected on? There are numerous towers in Revelstoke, then Telus has towers along the TC highway. Rogers also has a tower in Revelstoke but not along the highway. Talk to them as well. I read that the Telus Fidelity mountain tower picked up his phone,...

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

No worries: I use a bad elf gps that links to my ipad and enhances my phones built in gps. If you have an ipad that is 3g capable, even if it is not connected to the network it has a built in gps receiver that is always on. In both foreflight and cloud ahoy you can have the app create a track log t...

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

I am not sure if this has been checked: If the pilot flew with any apps like Foreflight / cloud ahoy and I am sure there are others, those apps track the flight using satellites and not radar. You can log into those apps from a computer and don't need to have the pilots ipad or phone in hand. How d...

Not sure if this has already been posted on avcanada, so I apologize if it is old news.

Re: What kind of shoes do you wear?

Cole Haan boots. Extremely comfortable, dressy, will last a few years with regular polishing, and water proof. Rubber sole for winter, but not chunky (you can get them in leather sole for summer). Avoid square toe shoes. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/cole-haan-warren-chelsea-boot-men/4060187?origin=ke...

Re: Headset Competition S1 VS Zulu PFX VS AV100 VS A20

Has anyone used the new Flightcom Denali D90 ANR? I have the original model that came out about 14 years ago... and I love it. Still use it without a problem. Passive noise reduction is excellent (as good as the Telex 50D imo), along with the light weight and comfort.

Re: Dash-8 Q400 Initial Training

So, why is it "ethical" to pay for your CPL/ME/IFR/Instructor process, but not yet a TR? The whole argument of there are others who cannot afford to pay for a type rating, or training, therefore nobody should do it, is flawed. There are many who cannot afford a CPL, etc, to become a pilot. I do not ...

How is Sunwest doing? I assumed they are in the same boat as NCA, but it sounds like this is not the case. Are companies in SK and MB feeling any impact?

Hello There, i got no time for people bitchin below about this. :smt014 I just want the facts. Does the medical test for drugs? All my pilot friends say the most the dr. does is make you pee in a cup, but its only checking your sugar levels, diabetes & something etc... One has even asked if they ch...

I have no business against SW, I just do not agree with TFW and I am sure loads of pilots for SW are against it. I do not think many, if any, Canadians are keen on TFW's but it is a new reality to deal with. Labour is a global commodity, and willing to work for a lower wage than Canadians are accus...

Re: Should I withdraw from Seneca's Aviation degree program?

Flightsimmer, Regardless of the opinions on whether AvCanadians think you'll get good training or not, a degree or diploma from a college such as Seneca (also Sault, Confed, UWO etc.) are highly respected at the airline level. I understand that Seneca has a direct entry program with Jazz. Again, th...

Re: Should I withdraw from Seneca's Aviation degree program?

If you are committed to going to post-secondary, I would go for a different program. From my experience in the corporate world, an Engineering degree is probably the most versatile. Go look at investment banking, financial research, or corporate development (many career opportunities) jobs. They all...

There's the s@&t end of the stick. Everyone wants something for cheaper, the walmart effect. I suspect people didn't see "value" in the experienced instructors and merely saw dollar signs and they weren't able to offer the cheapest product. We see it all the time on these forums asking where the ch...

Re: Do noise cancelling headsets protect or damage your ears

I bought the Telex 50D, and did not find the headset very comfortable. The passive protection is on par with my old Flightcom Denali with gel pads. I still love that headset. Very comfortable and excellent passive protection, IMO. I bought their new model, the Denali 90D with ANR, but Flightcom modi...

Take for example the post....I have over 1000tt and 800 turbine... The question that pops to mind is how much of that is PIC...And yes, even with the loosening of time for higher licenses, PIC counts. If the 800Turbine time , for example is all right seat, it gives us a surprising good indication o...

A job is only worth what the market is willing to pay for it. Unfortunately our market (our profession) is on a downward trend and we are seeing times get worse than ever before. It is not individual pilots who are lowering the market value of a pilot, but the CEOs who are running all the plays cau...
