Re: Air Canada Second Trip to C.C.A.A.?
No one knows where this pandemic is taking us and that includes the highly overpaid suits at AC who don’t know either. However, if they are worth their keep then they are burning the midnight oil right now developing plans around different scenarios (for a second wave, or things staying the same, or...

Re: 737 max
Just a general observation and comment: the tenor and tone of some posters on this forum has not changed much over the 8+ years that I have been here. A retired pilot asks for some assistance/information on a particular topic and what flows from that? Disapproval and disparagement, aspersion and con...

https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/jerry-dias/mandatory-retirement-age_a_23463095/ Jerry doesn't seem to think this is an issue of dignity or human rights....who'da figured that... I guess the FP60 will be striking Jerry off the witness list at the next CHRT hearing.... Jerry, a 55 year-old union boss i...

Re: Disability Benefits For Pilots Over Age 60
Geez, Lieutenant, I guess I'll just have to place you in both camps: both with those who "can't", and with those who "won't" see the benefits of FP60.

Re: Disability Benefits For Pilots Over Age 60
Please explain the upside of FP60? Being able to work past 60? Most people don't consider that an upside.... Most ACPA members are happy that the union stood up to the cash/seniority grab. I could start with the $127 million windfall (pointed out in a posting above) that went straight to the compan...

Re: Disability Benefits For Pilots Over Age 60
But the force-retired pilots didn't deserve what they got: active resistance from the union into which they paid dues for decades, and sanctimonious abuse from members who couldn't, or wouldn't consider the upside benefits of FP60.

Re: Disability Benefits For Pilots Over Age 60
Still some holdouts incapable of recognizing age discrimination even when it’s laid out on a platter before their faces for years now. In the words of the almighty Donald...sad. But that doesn’t explain the desire to deny sick benefits to your co-workers. You guys have a mile wide mean streak that ...

Re: CHRT Decision re ACPA Motion To Dismiss Mandatory Retirement Complaints
Actually Sage it’s about human rights. Always has been. Some people (ahem) think they were fighting greedy old guys on the seniority list, and incredibly still don’t realize they were fighting the Canadian Constitution and Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It was a totally one sided fight from the st...

Re: I heard there were direct entry ERJ Captains?
I'm sure that you'd love to have your memory refreshed too, Duke, but I've been down that dark and dirty road and not interested in going back. Thanks for your own recap though - talk about mastering the "ability to spin the yarn". Enjoy your "ride" with ACPA for which you say you're along ... and m...

Re: I heard there were direct entry ERJ Captains?
When ACPA divided its house over the FP60 issue, I recall that was OK with you; but today “it’s really sad to watch our slide” because “as a democracy, some of us are just along for the ride”. The thing about hypocrisy Duke, is that you can’t have it both ways. If you're prepared to screw your fello...

Re: No Clear Winner in FCA Mandatory Retirement Decision
This issue, is one of the most discriminating issues of modern times, by acpa, and AC. I agree with you completely longhaul but would add that, when it comes to dealing with employees, for AC the corporation, it has been, is, and always will be, just business. But for many (the majority) of the pil...

Re: No Clear Winner in FCA Mandatory Retirement Decision
Let me refresh your memory of some of the points that I asserted in posts that I made as early as 2006 ... The issue, therefore, was not "if," but "when?" and given "when," the logical next question was, "How should we deal with it?" ... However, instead of acting strategically, ACPA sub-delegated ...

Re: No Clear Winner in FCA Mandatory Retirement Decision
I remember & am familiar with it all. Throwing a tantrum and running away from home may make one feel good but such actions usually create more problems than they solve. I am reminded of the parent’s challenge to their kids: “If you’re tired of being hassled, then move out and pay your own way while...

Re: No Clear Winner in FCA Mandatory Retirement Decision
Hi Raymond, The dog to which I refer is “my” dog. As you are probably aware, I am not now and never have been one of the complainants but I have always been a sympathetic supporter of the abolishment of mandatory retirement based on age. When it became obvious to me that ACPA leadership lacked the m...

Re: No Clear Winner in FCA Mandatory Retirement Decision
Doug, Choice is a good thing usually. In this instance you are choosing to ignore the fact that the choices listed above can come at the expence of others retirement income or retirement time. That choice only increases the frustration in those who value retirement time. Is that a good choice your ...

Re: No Clear Winner in FCA Mandatory Retirement Decision
Which one do they sacrifice? Retirement income or retirement time? ... So I get the frustration. I think the big difference here is perspective. Hi Fanblade, From my perspective (having been force-retired) ... the big difference is ... everyone now has a choice, and that's not a bad thing. Pre FP60...
