Re: I had partial engine failure and I need advice regarding paperwork

You will likely get a call at some point from TC if the precautionary landing occurred at an airport with a ground observer. They would have submitted a CADOR, and TC will follow up at some point. If the landing was completely unobserved and no one reported it, then TC may not get involved. How wou...

No, why would it? ALL vehicles at airports are meant to be slow moving. The Slow moving vehicle laws come from provincial highways acts, not the CARs.

Re: Alternative for a floating dock

Its been awhile since I have been there, but the docks at Virginia Falls sound like exactly what you need. They're plastic cubes roughly a cubic foot that link together in infinite shapes and sizes to fit your needs, and I believe had integral tie down cleats but that could be my memory. Lots of For...

Really?
Rumour has it that when the RCMP transitioned to the PC12 in the arctic, they were able to demonstrate that they were never beyond gliding distance of a runway.

Re: Approach ban / RVR

I am looking for a clear explanation on how to interpret Canadian approach ban regulations. Here’s the situation: At airport XYZ, let’s say the runway is 27-09 and there’s only one RVR sensor (RVR A) located at touchdown of rwy 09. If the runway in use for landing is rwy27, does the RVR from 09 sti...

Re: Lake of the Woods Fatal Accident

So how does this airplane depart Baudette, Minnesota for Roseau, Minnesota, a track of about 280 degrees but end up on a track of 360 degrees and 45 miles into Canada? Crossing an international boarder? Crossing an international border with no intention to land is not a big deal. I do it regularly....

Re: Full Fuel on an Aircraft Parked on a Slope

Years ago I discovered a sunken caravan on floats tied to the dock. The fuel selectors had been left on, and fuel transferred to the wing away from the dock - the more that transferred, the lower it got, so the faster it transferred, until the float went under and the hatches filled up. Luckily the ...

Re: Captains of the North, what make you stay?

Yup, I'll earn less where I am than at AC over my career, I've accepted that. It also means I average 9 days of work a month, I'll be mortgage free before I'm 40, my commute to work is 7 minutes by car, 16 by mountain bike. I have a comfortable retirement setup, and to be honest, I just love my lif...

Absolutely. As long as you're not on call, and not bothered by the company for that "off" period, it is legal.

Re: Plane Swap Rant

This type of social media sensationalism has no place in aviation. Sadly these 2 clowns will likely make money from the whole thing even after paying for wasting 2 planes. FAA told them no, pull their license for good as it was a direct disobedience of the ruling. We need to end this type of reckle...

Re: Canoe Bag

I used to fly a lot of canoes on the 185, in the mountains. They were almost all bagged - we could get higher, cruise faster and climb better with them in a bag vs not. Flutter was easily solved with a couple wraps of duct tape.

Re: Cargo Pod 172

I say go for it. It would be a handy place to stow some tie-downs, rope, cowl cover, survival gear - other stuff that always gets in the way in the baggage compartment when you're trying to load bags. It doesn't have to be enormous. One for a 182 would be nice too. The problem with a 172 is if you ...

Re: Bamaji Air Caravan Hits Ice

I’ve seen photos of what’s left of the aircraft. It was a bad wreck, and they are lucky nobody died. I’m not going to pretend to know exactly what happened, but knowing the location of the accident and the weather of the day, it’s not hard to figure out what happened. It’s happened before, and will ...

Housing in the Yukon is obscene, if you can even find a place. Much as I love the Yukon, I would say you're better off elsewhere.

Re: Seaplanes at Night

When I was at Borek, I remember being told that it was quite common for high time Twin Otter captains to have to go rent a C172 to get 5 hours of night cross country PIC to get their ATPLs despite having north of 4000 hours in the log book. I was told that most had the night time but couldn't log i...
