Re: hiring halter...
There is a pretty strong rumour regarding additional 777's (4-5) which will be announced before the end of the year. These are in addition to the 5 777's previously announced. All part of CR's "Global Powerhouse" plan going forward. How soon this will impact hiring is anyone's guess.....just not sur...

Re: YVR for New Hires
Any word on if some of the LCC will be YVR based in the future? The cynic in me sees them keeping a single LCC base. I believe the new forced contract has deadhead only days at the LCC as zero credit, only counting towards the maximum calendar days at work. this lets you run something like a Mexica...

Re: Arbitrator sides with the company for machinists CBA
An extension of the current pension funding moratorium might be the best solution given the alternatives. With little chance of an interest rate hike or strong market turn around before 2014, AC's DB plans are set to sink this ship and soon. An interest rate hike of just .25% changes the shortfall b...

Re: Tribunal Reverses Thwaites Decision, Upholds Complaints
Morry Bund....I believe your projections could be conservative. During The V-K hearings it is my understanding that the company, while claiming no wrong doing, offered in the alternative 24 months as a reasonable time frame for a payout. Recall as well that in addition to the payout, they also offer...

Re: AC Rampies walk off the job
When you are through with suing the Government of Canada ....why not dust off TA1 and throw it back in AC's face. Because TA1 creates a second class of Air Canada pilot by putting them on an inferior pension plan and "B" scale salary and working conditions. That's why not. ...And welcome to reality...

Re: AC Rampies walk off the job
My guess is that CR is attempting to restructure this train wreck outside of CCAA. After 2003/4, 2009 and now this mess....a court ordered restructuring brought about by another CCAA filing could neuter AC permanently..... with the resulting carrier broken into pieces. The courts (and the gov't) wil...

Now that Lisa Raitt and the Federal Conservative Government has dealt CR two aces from the bottom of the deck, who believes that AC will want to resume bargaining? This is Final Offer Arbitration. The object here, I believe, is to keep everyone honest and to remember not to get greedy. Pie-in-the-s...

[/quote] What is painfully obvious is that nobody involved is prepared to deal with the reality facing AC in 2014 and beyond. What is required is a plan that will generate sustainable cash flows that can reasonably be expected to meet the financial obligations associated with pension and fleet renew...

4 to 1 ratio of ground services vs mechanics, a new contract that makes baggage well paid whilst the mechanics fall further behind means a new agreement with whippings continuing for maintenance. Your airplanes may have, for the foreseeable future, problems. Makes total sense doesn't it.....in an A...

This is not what Air Canada had planned on. A 6 month extension through MEDIATION?? What happened to a quick 14 day binding arbitration....with the outcome kind of slanted in AC's favour?? LISA....what's going on here? All of their well planned strategy about narrow time constraints, critical window...

If Air Canada is now admitting that there is no Bona Fide Occupational Requirement to force retire its pilots at age 60....does that mean that there never was a BFOR? A question here.. Who did all of the talking for the 1st 60 days of this company manufactured process? ACPA? If so Why? Did the company just sit back (listening attentively of course) while we rambled on....all the while watching the clock slowly run down. If I understand it correctly, we hadn't eve...

Speaking of ACPA and its ability to put our money at potential risk.....has anybody here seen where our tab is at, as of late? Legal fees from Day 1 until today? [quote="Martin Tamme" This brings me back to Air Canada's argument. If they can't properly operate their flights without creating undue financial hardship, it becomes a defence to a Bona Fide Occupational Requirement. So yes, if a pilot plans to remain past 60, and the Company can't determine when h...

So that would now be the IAM, CAW and CUPE supporting employee grievances regarding forced retirement.

I do not believe that our Scope Clause will be able to prevent Air Canada from becoming involved with a new Low Cost Carrier. Research on JetStar's humble beginnings makes for some interesting reading. Qantas pilots initially scoffed at the idea, apparently believing that the LCC would fall flat on ...

The key words in your post are " stop this " from happening. Qantas wanted a LCC arm and they got one. Air Canada has stated they NEED a LCC arm and they are going to get one whether we like it or not. It will be our choice whether we are eventually part of this new entity or find ourselves on the o...

Grif.....I suspect if you are having to ask this question....you are going to find the initial sacrifice(s) as a new hire at AC more painful than someone who really knows where he wants to be 15 years from now. No doubt this is a tough decision for someone in your position given all of the uncertain...
