Re: V_x and performance takeoffs - POH discrepancy
The only difference I know of is 10 degree flap. I have always told the story the short takeoff speed is Vx with 10 flap.

Re: Angle of attack in a climbing turn
Walk up a spiral staircase with a 2x8 as your "wings" and look at the higher AOA. Now walk down.

I would say a job well done by the crew, and I am sure the passengers would agree.

My personal favorite: Carb heat on THEN reducing power.Doc wrote:Could we "dumb this down" any further?
Reduce/chop power.
THEN?
Level the wings.
THEN?
Ease out of the dive

Nice one! Whats up with the SC1 layer? Would you not see something like BKN 009 BKN 012, the second layer being the SC octa?

A should be correct. 5/8 to 7/8 is BKN and a ceiling even if its fog. Good luck studying

Re: Brampton Flight Club Instructors
I would charge for the time I was spending with the student. If the student had a 2 hour booking and I've spent every single second of those 2 hours with them, I subtract the flight time from the 2 hours and the rest is ground time. Lucky for us we didn't have "ground briefing" hours rather "ground...

Re: How To Be A Better Pilot
+ 1 to the thread. I enjoy reading and then trying exercises other people do. I will add a few. 1) Never land with out an intended touchdown point. numbers etc. 2) Find a geographical straight line (road, treeline, runway) Start a glide and preform a forward slip and maintain track along the road. R...

Re: Professional Pilot Programs - 10kt wind limit / 5000 fee
Good for you, it nice to see instructors trying to give more than the TC minimum. As for your request for "stopping the generalizations about FTU's"....well good luck with that  On a more serious note, it is also not only handling the crosswind that is important, at the CPL level you should be...

Re: Professional Pilot Programs - 10kt wind limit / 5000 fee
Flight training is definitely reaching for the bottom step these days... Can we stop the generalizations about FTU's? I train many CPL's and before I recommend them for a flight test they will have experienced a 12-15 kt x wind component. Most of my PPL students will also do this. I sell them on th...

Re: Landing Fees on Vancouver Island.
I agree thats bad about Qualicum. SO to add to the list: Pemberton (CYPS) says it has landing fees. I went there last year twice and even stayed the night and never got any landing fees. Decent little airport and golf course right there. Been to Tofino twice and never got billed. Cambell river I bel...

Re: Question regarding a possible carb icing incident, C150L
agreed with above. Adding power and carb heat cold at the same time leads to a lean mixture. I had class 1 that always said 2 things... 1. Power is not a switch (don't go full throttle instantly) 2. Never add power and turn off the carb heat with hand and thumb as you described I have also found som...
