Float Plane Sea State limiting factors, lack of outriggers
Obviously having too much time on my hands, I was wondering why boat-hulled planes can land in far higher sea states (Beaufort scale) than twin float planes? Is it due to the design of the floats i.e. their V hull is not deep enough or the length of the floats (both things which in normal vessels af...

Re: Floatplane vs Boat-hull light amphibian, which is better
Thanks, though in the spirit of all things PC, it should now be really called "Invasion Day", bless those with bleeding hearts... Yes, there are white caps and yes there are sheltered bays with slips where operation is possible (and legal) due to the size of the harbour... What sea state would be th...

Floatplane vs Boat-hull light amphibian, which is better?
Due to the excellent response to my previous post, it would appear that this forum has become my latest addiction, so I thought I'd pose another question, this time on an entirely personal basis. As the board would appear to be full of seaplane pilots, with far more experience than I, if you had to ...

Re: Loading an ATV (Quad Bike) into a single engine bushplan
Of course photo's and in this modern age, video's will be posted, only fair to put the result of this thinktank back into the general pool. Helo's were considered but having done a lot of work with green painted ones in the past, underslung loads are a nightmare and the logistical support for anythi...

Re: Loading an ATV (Quad Bike) into a single engine bushplan
I think I could have just developed a solution, using an internal winch (or the winch on the quad), some rope quides to make sure the pull is in the right direction, initially 90 degrees to the fuesalage or best angle in, then in line with it once the front is in, a loading ramp and four of these do...

Bush8aver,
Those dimensions are those of the AN-2 cargo hold and door, scroll right to the top and you'll see the dimensions of the quad.

Re: Loading an ATV (Quad Bike) into a single engine bushplan
Thanks everyone for helping clarify this issue, even if I have unintentionally (for a change) started a minor war. So, having established loading a quad is possible into a single, which would appear to be easier if you have a flat surface at cargo door height to facilitate the loading, what is the w...

Re: Loading an ATV (Quad Bike) into a single engine bushplan
Well, it looks like my life expectancy has just been commuted to 7 days, as on the seventh day, god will be sending a couple of bolts of lightening with my name on them, bugger.... The plus side is that I can now sin to my hearts content for the rest of the week... What aircraft is that, a Cessna 20...

Re: Loading an ATV (Quad Bike) into a single engine bushplan
Firstly, my apologies for doing a double tap post. Secondly, thanks for all the help and ideas generated so far, to answer some of the questions that have come up: The quad is specific to the contract, so unfortunately this cannot be changed, the reason behind this is pretty much why army units in t...

Loading an ATV (Quad Bike) into a single engine bushplane?
I am a former army officer in Australia working on a project in outback Australia . As part of this project we need to be able to lift ATV's and associated trailers etc (seperated if needed) in a single engine or light twin STOL aircraft, has anyone done this or is it the opinion of the forum that I...
