Re: Do you still enjoy aviation?
Some great posts. I quite flying 20 years ago and over 30 aircraft to concentrate on sailing...was not going back! After years of offshore sailing all over the place I returned to become a dirt dweller again.. I renewed my medical and bought a little aerobatic biplane and a month ago I bought anothe...

Geeeeze Beef, of all places Penhold. When I was 12 I used to ride my bike there from Red Deer and hide in the tall grass watching the Harvards doing circuits..only over 50 years ago, lol. At one of the airshows a Sabre jet came diving in and broke the sound barrier and half the windows in the hangar...

Nope I would not BUT for someone that has the personal skill to rebuilt it and as others have said the engine is good then it might be a good buy.

Actually quite amazing when you realize that the Aeronca's were designed in the early 40's. Over the years little changes here and there but by and large the same basic aircraft that your grampa learned to fly in.

Re: Why Employers Don't Post Wages
This is such a crazy topic..in business you get what your worth, nothing more, nothing less. If your group wants to give away your services, thats exactly what they are worth. Its a complete waste of time crying about it, flying is a low wage entry job, get used to it. The good old days are long gon...

Re: Stay away from the edge ---part 2.
I think knowing your limitations is spot on, if your smart/informed enough to know them. Natural selection will look after those that don't really know their limitations. As to fearing stalls/spins well I guess its like a religious debate, no one ever wins. There are some pilots that want to be able...

Re: Tell us about YOUR flight training...
My wife did her basic training in an older Citabria which is probably the easiest of all the tail wheel aircraft to fly but it does a decent job as a basic trainer. I just purchased a Piper PA-20 Pacer for her to build some time in. Its a little more to handle on the ground but when she gets 50 hour...

Re: Tell us about YOUR flight training...
Is fun to talk about using taildraggers for training but those days have come and gone and will never be back. Whether its a C 150/172 or a Cherokee or a Diamond they really are almost the only choices because those are the only aircraft 95% of the current instructors can fly. When you get your lice...

Re: Looking into flight training couple questions.
T-Cart is a FUN Aircraft to learn in. Your student is lucky that he has someone like you around who can teach him. I've only flown 2 ultralights from years ago, one a Lazair and the other(can't remember the name) had spoilerons operated with feet and rudder operated with the stick. I was lucky to ge...

Re: Looking into flight training couple questions.
The point I was trying to make is that you can teach someone to fly a tail wheel aircraft in the same number of hours that it would take in a trike. For sure you will have a pilot that is very aware of the rudders and their basic skills in that department will be much higher but its not something th...

Re: Baby steps
Actually for many years Maules looked like they were built in Russian tractor factories. One of the poorist finished aircraft I have ever flown. They certainly have improved over the years but it took them a long time.

Re: Baby steps
Maules are basically a PA-20 with a bigger engine and the PA-20 is just a PA-16 with a bigger engine. If you want to land short, land 3 point but they do wheel land quite nicely, actually one of the easier ones to wheel land.

Re: Looking into flight training couple questions.
Actually if you begin on tailwheel there is no difference. As a student you simply end up learning to land and take off with a much higher sensitivity but you don't really realize that you in fact are able to keep the aircraft much straighter than a typical trike gear student, it just happens. Now I...

Re: When an airplane doesn't sell?
I sold my last aircraft in less than 90 days for full asking price and recently purchased another aircraft from the USA. I've also owned bought sold and maintained over 30 aircraft in my past so I do have some idea what to look for but no question, it is much harder to sell airplanes today that it u...

Re: RIP Lisa Sener . . . Pilot Cirrus SR-22 G3 TC-SAS
Looking at the first utube I can't see anything unique about this aircrafts handling characteristics. A 172 would do the same thing. Its too bad that stalls in steep turns are not demonstrated more often. Inside wing stalls and the aircraft rolls opposite the turn. Forget about rudder and simply cha...

Re: Piston Otters
I put over 500 hours in an Otter (one season) with all sorts of tasks you'd expect in the north and I disagree. I'll take the Otter over the Beaver any day. Yup I put lots of time in a Beaver as well and its a good aircraft but given a choice I'll take the Otter.

Re: Landing on the lake technique
If I was flying a low wing retractable then I might take a crack at the water next to the shore but if I was in a high wing fixed gear I'd try to stuff it between a couple of trees and hope that having the wings ripped off might decelerate enough to allow the cabin to make it...me in it of course
