Re: ICAO to TC and advice to a foreigner

You can call Transport Canada Licencing and they will confirm requirements for a transfer. An ICAO licence is as far as I know a straight transfer. You pay the applicable fee. You will also need to get a TC medical done. The rest falls under recency requirements and that is probably where the flying...

Re: New hire bids

Looking at the seniority list it seems that YYC Q is the most senior Q base in the system. I know a few pilots on the Q FO side there and they're very happy with the flying they do. Fairly busy! Re your second question, YYZ Q currently has the most junior Captain in the entire system. Upgrades will...

Re: Should I upgrade? (Serious answers only please)

I am going to echo the last 2 comments. I think you should wait. The last thing you want is to get into the upgrade and then find you really are not ready for it. AC is not the be all end all.

Re: ADB renewal timeline ?

The idea I believe is to send in the application 90 days prior, this way it will not affect the subsequent renewal 5 years later... I have not heard of anyone having trouble getting their ADB. Medicals on the other hand...

Re: Negotiations

Expect a revised CPA, timeline for reduction of fleet size happening sooner rather than later. Attrition to achieve the required baseline numbers more or less taken care of. Next up is a form of retention... so they will probably throw a bone in to satisfy those who remain...

Re: Zone 5 for boarding on POS DH

Just be polite and courteous. I always board towards the end of Zone 2 or prior to Zone 3. I have never had any issues and most level headed CSA's know why and take no issue with it. Hell I have even had a CSA board me before Zone 1. As previously stated if you happen to get booted out of line then ...

Re: Negotiations

The time off taken by those on disability is also a function of the amount of time wasted sitting around to see a specialist. Then add the time it takes for TC medical to review and respond. If you ask me, I am willing to bet at least 50% of the "time off" could be scaled down if bureaucratic red ta...

Re: How hard is it to get the first job after cpl

Not everyone has had the same experience when it comes to landing the first job. Timing is part of it. Persistence and Patience is certainly required. You can randomly hit the road and drive or you can target where you would like to go. Make use of the connections you have or cultivate new ones if y...

Re: How long is Transport Canada processing time for Class 1 medical

I think you are looking at anywhere from 12 to 18 months or more. There were issues pre-covid (at the time 3 months). Ask anyone who has had their medical stamped by their CAME, it is likely you will hear they have not been billed by TC in close to 3 years. There may be some differences in the regio...

Re: Working Abroad is the Only Way I can Justify A Career as a Pilot.

This career is not always about flying the heavy metal. There are many paths you can follow. I will say that if this is a career you want to pursue then be prepared because it can be somewhat of a roller coaster ride. So much seems to also depend on timing. Start at the right time and you might coas...

Re: Class 1 medical

My Guess would be sometime in the realm of 12 to 18 months after your medical was submitted by your CAME. If you happen to go a year without the CAT 1 in hand, make sure when you next visit your CAME that you inform them as such so your name is not shunted to the bottom of the pile.

What about just getting a Lantern Test done? Far easier and conclusive. All you need is to distinguish red, green and white.

Depends on the region. On average it is taking 12 to 15 months to get a new "sticker" from TC. Communication with TC is virtually non existent.

As with everything at TC these days you can expect a delay on that... I think it took them something in the order of close to a year before they sent me the key. So much time had passed I had forgotten what it was all about...

Re: Medical Delays

Theoretically, but as I have been taking an SSRI for mental health issues, I'm not about to risk my future by not disclosing that. I am not saying don't disclose it. Not at all. Go to an aviation doc who is comfortable stamping your booklet. If TC then wants more info, it doesn't matter how long it...

Re: Medical Delays

TC Medical approvals for CAT 1 taking up to 15 months... This is unacceptable especially seeing as how there were backlogs prior to COVID. The entire process needs to be streamlined and TC Doctors should not be reviewing every single renewal that has been sent in. Focus should be on those waiting to...

Hello, I went for my first Cat 1 medical a few months ago and I still have not heard anything. I have tried contacting TC with the email and number they have on the website but with no response. Does anyone have any advice for getting into contact with them to find the status of my medical? It is m...

Re: Medical/Technology Rant

Not sure why you are dealing with the paper forms... I had my medical done in September 2020 and my CAME promptly told me to bear with him, new system in place, all electronic etc.... I am not inclined to think this process makes things move any faster, perhaps saves the step of a clerk scanning the...
