Re: Resolute Bay Accident - Pilots Discussion Thread
If the VOR wasn't tuned up, and they weren't circling, then maybe the avionics shit the bed at the wrong time, or perhaps runaway trim or something on short final. Any 737-200 drivers care to share their theories? Not sure if you've ever flown something with electric trim, but a runaway event does'...

Re: Resolute Bay Accident - Pilots Discussion Thread
There's no question it was a CFIT. They tracked to the VOR instead of on the LOC, either because they forgot to switch freqs prior to intercepting, or else they flew the arc approach and again didn't switch freqs. There are only two remaining questions: Why didn't they switch freqs, and why didn't ...

Re: Resolute Bay Accident - Pilots Discussion Thread
I don't really know a lot about IFR flying but looking at the CAP plate even though there is no published MAP for the localizer approach I have a question. Wouldn't a pilot know given that the final approach fix POKAN is published as 4.0 miles from the threshold if they didn't see the runway after ...

Re: Resolute Bay Accident - Pilots Discussion Thread
Has anyone noticed that there is no missed approach point for the LOC/DME approach on the ILS/DME 35T plate? Not on the DND copies anyway. Take a look. Page 325 in the previous set of pubs that expired yesterday. Were they intending to fly the LOC approach, dialed in & tracked the VOR by accident, a...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
There is nothing wrong with speculation as an expert as long as you understand and accept the fact you could be way off on your speculation. Those who wish to stay out of speculative commentary should feel free to do so. But please don't tell those who wish to speculate to STFU. Even the speculator...

Also, I love it when people don't expect theories to be discussed in these threads. Grow up. I edited your I'll-considered post. Good advise that you may wish to consider. Try and read a thread and get a sense of the underlying tone before pontificating. JC Thanks for the lecture. Only a four-year-...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
Ax n' Rowdy Just a question for you, since you're implying that you're professionals above reproach.. A 737 spread all over the ground at 8 miles final suggests someone 'might' have been at an inappropriate altitude. Yes? Of the souls on board, regardless of aircraft type, whom do you suggest might...

Judge rules police were G20 aggressors
Well isn't this great... "“The only organized or collective physical aggression at that location that evening was perpetrated by police each time they advanced on demonstrators,” Justice Melvyn Green ruled on Thursday. He was referring to a demonstration at Queen St. and Spadina Ave. on Saturday, Ju...

Beginning this summer, if this BS flow is again implemented by Terminal, I will begin naming the entire staff here, with personal contact info, so you may voice your complaints directly to them.

Re: WG terminal, short AGAIN
It's been a daily feature in the summers as long as i've been flying in the area (2 years?). Especially as someone who instructs IFR, it sucks to receive a call from ACC and get my booking cancelled. Hurts the student, as well as the instructor. Having said that, there are also times where controll...
