Re: Barkley-Grow

Trying to track down user 'Dibbley' to seek permission from him to publish one of his photos of Barkley-Grow CF-BTX behind Coulson's hangar at Port Alberni in the 1990s for an upcoming article in Propliner magazine. I was in touch with Jaeson Cardiff of the splendid Barkley-Grow Facebook page who r...

Re: Dash Cycles

Is Jazz still operating S/N 3? I heard it was on its way down South or something. I have complete faith in Jazz's older Classics. The old Liat and other island hopping ones with 70,000+ cycles and only 20,000 hours are the scary ones. GOM is long gone. I gave her a kiss on the cowl the last time I ...

EIC is a Canadian corporation. I think that Fanblade is correct.

Our old crew bus driver used to put on a pilot's uniform and hang around the bars trying to impress the chicks.(This boy had problems...) Are you sure it wasn't him?

Re: What kind of pen do you use?

I make a point of stealing whatever pen I find laying on the radio panel during my visits to the cockpit - usually a papermate. I won't touch anything fancy. I hand them out to whatever mechanic might need them that day - someone is always needing one. Pilot`s have pocketed many an Engineer`s screwd...

Re: Dash-8 100 PW120 Prop Overspeed Governor Relief Valve Li

My guess is that the valve (the post mod variety) would be handled as part of the complete overspeed governor/pump assembly and the overhaul times would be set the same as that unit. When our engines go out for O/H, the overspeed governor/pump goes out as part of the basic engine. What they do with ...

Re: Barkley-Grow

By my read, the crash happened more near the Saskatchewan/Alberta border - that is what I ascertained when I googled 'Cache Creek - Alberta' yesterday afternoon. I knew it was heading to the museum in Alberta, when my pics were taken but how it got to Vancouver Island inbetween is anyone's guess. Fe...

Re: Barkley-Grow

"Here is a photo of Canadian Pacific Airlines Barkley-Grow CF-BTX that had some problems at Kawka/Porcupine Lake near Cache Creek in 1945. I took the photo in Sept 1981" Coulson Industries was doing a lot of heli-logging off of their barge back in those years and my recollection of the story was the...

Re: Barkley-Grow

I finally took some time to upload some pics I took of BTX back in around 1990. It had been salvaged by Coulson Industries from a Coastal BC logging site, from what I've been told. They were heli-logging and found the wreck and decided to pull her out of the woods. The shots are from the original Co...

Re: Dash-8 100 PW120 Prop Overspeed Governor Relief Valve Li

The reason for the replacement of the relief valve, was the danger of internal 'coking' of the oil - from what I remember. My guess is that the valve would stick and prop control issues might develop. I have a whole collection of overspeed governor p/n tags in my junk drawer. The mod involved the co...

Re: Dash-8 100 PW120 Prop Overspeed Governor Relief Valve Li

I can't give you overhaul times for these, but I remember there was an AD or SB requiring replacement of them immediately back around 2000. I did our whole fleet over a few weeks back then. Best to give P & W a call and give them your situation details.

Re: Open Mic!

This brings back memories from 20 years ago..... We were running a jet down at the west end of Alpha at YVR, after an engine change. I was the guy in the pilot seat and the crew were outside adjusting the FCU as per my instructions. I was toggling between the aircraft service mike and the YVR ground...

Re: Jazz Heavy AME

The operation is not going tits up - it will just have different owners. The jobs will be there, the main organization can now focus on doing line maintenance. Does WestJet do their own heavy maintenance? No one does anymore.

Re: Jazz Heavy AME

I'm sorry if you are offended. The writing has been on the wall for that part of the organization for many years now. The company doesn't want to be in the overhaul business. If you are senior enough, you can easily bid to one of the other bases to maintain your employment situation. Personally, if ...

Re: Jazz Heavy AME

I have heard from many of my YHZ Jazz AME members that the plan is in the works to carve the heavy away from the main organization. They already got rid of the London base and this is next on the list. I'll let you guess who would probably be the eventual buyer but me thinks it starts with an I and ...

Yes, it might be able to smother some smoldering Rank 1 in the middle of nowhere and no further action will be required..... but you will never see a Rank 3 or higher interface fire actioned by a Mars and nothing else and have a successful outcome. Maybe I'm from the old school but I assume that fi...
