Re: August Equip Bid

Now that AC bid is out Jazz will need lots of pilots if AC needs to fill each GS with 60% of Jazz pilots. I think Jazz will need to give AC 480 pilots ... ouch That assuming the 600+ Transat pilots aren’t filling a bunch of them I doubt very much that AC will park all the TS planes. Under ACPA rule...

Re: August Equip Bid

Isn't the YYZ Q doing a lot of that eastern flying? or is it mostly YUL? I don't look too closely at their bid pacs anymore. I also wouldn't be surprised if they didn't run an august bid again.. That eastern flying is being taken off the Q and given to rouge 319 There is lot of eastern flying out o...

From my understanding, Jazz has been cancelling an absurd amount of flights which are Air Canada paying passengers and Air Canada flights.
Define absurd. Because I would dispute the accuracy of that statement

Re: August Equip Bid

Once Rouge takes over all the YFC YSJ flying there’s not much need for a YYZ Q base. Do YYZ crews continue to DH east or west to start every pairing? YVR Q base will continue to grow. Out east do we open a YHZ Q base? Way more flying there for the Q than YYZ but open a base or continue to dh crews f...

Turn it off when you go to bed. Hell turn the whole phone off. It's what I do. Airplane mode of I need my alarm (though easily remedied by getting a cheap alarm clock) If you are on reserve... kinda hard to do. I wish I could! I set my phone on do not disturb until my reserve time. At which it goes...

If this was more widely known I think more people would check their bag and reduce a lot of the gate check/full overhead bin issue

Re: Gate checking carry on in Canada

I heard it from a friend who heard it from a AC agent that at check in you can check a “carryon” size bag for free regardless of ticket type. This is at check in not the gate. Nothing about this on AC website. Has anyone ever heard/experienced this.

Only at certain airports. This is not a Transport Canada rule but rather a rule invented by a security clown-in-charge at one airport and copied by others. YYJ, YEG, and YUL are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. It’s a TC rule. Crew in uniform are only exempt from the liquids and...

And don't forget, if you bring liquids through security -in uniform-, they have to be hidden from the passengers. That was news to me! Only at certain airports. It all boils down to professionalism for me. 1. We want to be paid and seen as professionals Except regional FO’s aren’t paid as professionals so what can you expect? When one paycheque goes entirely to rent it’s pretty demotivating. As for sunglasses in the terminal that is just pathetic and super...

Re: ATPL as a requirement

With the AC flow through, mostly captains, coupled with the fact jazz hires sub 1000 hour no ATPL pilots, it will eventually catch up to them. I can see the hiring of Direct Entry Captains becoming a thing very soon. Get that PIC time. I don’t think you’ll see direct entry Captains, there are some ...

Air Canada is hiring close to 600 people a year at BOTL and many of them are just as experienced as the Transat pilots, or more.
Exactly.

Re: Reverser Light leads to Engine Shutdown

The pilots did the right thing in shutting the engine down. You don't want to waste time when presented with a bad reverser. They then ran the qrh, which directed them to the correct procedure for that aircraft and they continued as they should. Hardly even worth mentioning really. What!! They were...

Re: Reverser Light Leads to Engine Shutdown

On the CRJ 200 you will get an amber REV UNLOCKED message. Procedure is to call for the QRC (quick response checklist)
On the CRJ 900 you will get a red REV DEPLOYED message. Procedure is to call for the QRC.
It is not a memory item to do a shutdown on either aircraft

Re: Reverser Light Leads to Engine Shutdown

What happens in an essentially centreline thrust aircraft when you shut down an engine at cruise speed? You slow down a bit? What happens if you have the buckets deploy at cruise power? Sounds like they weren't sure and played it safe. I'd call that a win. Wrong. There is a procedure for the situat...

Re: Time for Transat pilot future poll

The top scale Transat A330 captain has a lower pay rate than a A320 captain at AC. Essentially Transat Seniority #1 currently makes less on paper than a seniority number 3200ish that holds a A320 captain position at AC. Let that sink in. The Transat pilots have landed a windfall of a lifetime. Even...

Really BOTL. Comfort in knowing pay won’t be hurt??? There’s way more to life than pay. Put yourself in the other pilot's position and ask how you'd expect to be treated. Not gonna happen, but what if Delta buys AC, how should that merger go. 3000 pilots vs 15000. BOTL since I'll be making more money anyways This is why BOTL with pay protection makes the most sense to me. TS pilots ge...

Nobody in the flying public will ever get on anything remotely related to a 737 Max again. That's a much more delicate issue than fixing the physical issues. By the time the Max flies again everyone will have moved on the the next Facebook crisis. People care about price and that’s it. As has been ...
