Re: AR program Did I read that right?
When a wj first officer upgrades after x years of service he goes directly to x years on the capt payscale. Swg capt are put on the captain payscale according to the number of years as a captain. So a wj fo upgrading today after 10 years of company will be on the 10 year capt payscale. A Swg captai...

Battered pilot syndrome. Don’t forget your blue gloves on your next pairing    Yeah dude, every major airline is doing it wrong. Classic coolaid w/ #1 blue dye I’m not sure what the grooming policy is these days, I haven’t groomed a plane in years. I don’t know why you are grooming p...

Re: Why WestJet?
How many major airlines in the USA and Europe have socialized bidding ? Seniority bidding allows crews to decide if they want the lifestyle or the upgrade which is a win/win. And yes don’t forget to groom the plane on your commute flight home like a good little goyim. You seem very bitter and resen...

Re: Why WestJet?
This my opinion. If you are 35 or younger, you are probably better off going to WestJet. Even if you end up waiting 10 years for an upgrade, you still have potentially 20 years left in that left seat. And remember, if you upgrade at year 10, you go straight to year 10 captain scale. And while you w...

Re: 150 Pilots forced move out of YYZ
A reduction bid or a full rebid are the only ways to get everybody back on seniority order. Without that bid, some Captains from Sunwing would be out of seniority. A rebid was expected on the 1 year anniversary of the arbitration, it doesn’t come as a surprise. SWG workforce was heavily based East, ...

Re: WestJet Encore applies for LMIA to hire foreign pilot
Everyone is hiring. Porter is running classes now, AC is running classes now, Encore has planes parked due to lack of crews Westjet is running transition classes from Sunwing but that will only be for 3 more months. Rumour mill has been printing that WestJet will not be hiring for the rest of the y...

Who cares if you're in ground school and quit to go somewhere better It’s nothing personal it’s just business brotha You cost less than 3 turbine blades Right there with you! The company won't hesitate to lay you off just because you "chose" them. Plenty of pilots got the boot during initial ground...

Onex paid about 3.5 billion and assumed debt which put the total transaction value around 5 billion at the time of purchase. There is a bit of a mix between USD and CAD. The valuation is 2.2b USD or 3.1b CAD I'm surprised WS has gone down in value since the takeover. 2.2 Billion for a company with ...

How much did Onex buy WJ for? Cause they sold 25% for 550 million. That's a 2.2 billion valuation. What is the plan if, after Alberta separates, Northern Alberta wants to separate from Southern Alberta and form a petrostate?

Re: Misc WJ questions
Would it be reasonable for a junior reserve holder to get weekends off? How many days per month do you have off when on reserve? Just the 12 I’m guessing? Would it be possible for somebody who is senior on reserve to get a short block of days? For example; at some airlines you only need to do 2 day...

Re: Misc WJ questions
You bid monthly for your days off and they are awarded by seniority. You often get what you ask for as long as it’s not unreasonable. Reserve guys are usually scheduled 16 to 18 days per month Long call is awarded to the 25% most senior pilots holding reserve. You get assigned more on long call tha...

What does reserve at WestJet look like? For example are you able to pick your days off pretty good? Is there a minimum number if days you need to be in reserve at a given time? How is long call awarded? And do you get called less than regular reserve? You bid monthly for your days off and they are ...

There is no such airline as Sunwing, this is WestJet through and through. Did WJ not have the capability to assist with the latest SW disaster in order to get pax where they wanted to go? From what I hear, the pilots are WestJet, with WJ SOPs, on WJ's OC, and WJ's dispatch. I believe Sunwing Vacati...

Re: YYZ RJ landing Accident
Looking at it from a purely scientific perspective and not letting emotions get involved, female pilots make up 6% of the American pilot population but were behind the controls of 100% of the serious accidents this year. This statistic indicates a significant correlation but not necessarily a causa...

Re: Pilots thinking of leaving WJ due to 16 year upgrades
Well to be fair, it’s WJ ALPA that forced the one-AOC and integration on the last CA. Sunwing pilots would have been more than happy to have been kept a separated entity with their own contract with a tail limit/no growth. You can’t force the integration and then be mad about stagnation… unless you...

Re: What kind of seniority does it take to have good money & schedule at AC?
WJ you can be working 9-12 days a month once you’re off reserve, and not have to live in YYZ/YVR. However you won’t hit the 200k you mention. Upgrades currently at 11 years and forecast to be 16 years. 10 years to hold 787FO. Is that forecast of 16 years for YEG/YYC? It was ALPA’s post merger forec...

Review your FCTM, Section: Automatic Flight - Autothrottle Modes. In summary: N1 mode: Sets a fixed engine thrust level based on N1 limits. SPEED mode: Dynamically adjusts thrust to maintain a specific airspeed target. Other Modes: TO/GA: Overrides with takeoff/go-around thrust. LVL CHG: Switches A...

Re: Should WJA get rid of AR (age +65 pilots) ?
So after 10-15 years or whichever it is to upgrade, then you have to do a few more years on reserve? How long to get off reserve on the FO side in Alberta? These days it’s almost impossible to give an answer. YYC hired 88 FOs in 2023, and 4 in 2024. Realistically around 45 people behind you will ge...

Re: Why Won't You Come to WestJet?
As per the position bid document, there are more Captains than FOs: 878 vs 791 full time, and 67 vs 12 reduced block. I don’t know how many are currently inactive but that could be a factor to stop the upgrades
