Re: Remove AR, reduce upgrade time?

It will be YUL due to lack of connections to any other point in our network. It’s too hard to get extra crew there if they need more resources. Agreed. There are less than 10 daily flights out of YUL, and only 4 domestic flights (2 to YYC and 2 to YYZ). YUL is a small base too. If we were to close ...

Re: Remove AR, reduce upgrade time?

It's high time now. We need Upgrade. We need Upgrade. I’d be less concerned with the AR pilots getting out of your way, really that’s what this posts amounts too, but maybe be more concerned with downgrades and potential layoffs coming all of our way! I’m curious, if it’s in fact true that the AR p...

Re: Encore downgrading recently hired DEC

I guess DEC are SOL then. Being hired for a position then being demoted so someone else takes your position wouldn’t hold water in many industries, but this is aviation and this is ALPA. The position they were hired to doesn't exist anymore. Those senior pilots aren't taking "their" position. SECTI...

Collective Agreements are public record. You can't purport to make a side deal and expect enforcement. You will lose. https://negotech.service.canada.ca/eng/agreements/15/1533202a.pdf 15-10.05. In the event of a bid where a PSB has both additional Vacancies and a requirement for Position reductions...

Re: Encore downgrading recently hired DEC

At Encore, the job postings read “direct entry Captain” for these positions, which means applicants applied for a specific position of captain, it doesn’t get decided after hiring. I’m sure most DEC at Encore wouldn’t have applied to the job if it wasn’t direct entry. I don’t know how things work at...

Re: Encore downgrading recently hired DEC

If he was hired as DEC, he’s already out of seniority by design. Not sure how he could be downgraded since he didn’t get hired as a FO as the first place.

Re: AR program Did I read that right?

We are. And the contract says “A Pilot shall be paid based on their Length of Service as a Pilot with the Company” And WJ argues that before being with the company, Sunwing pilots were not with the company. Same argument has been made with Encore, which is why their pay resets when they join WJ. Th...

Re: Who Wants to Fly WJ

Maybe have a look at that Westjet operation, if you want to talk about competence. How's that reduction bid looking now? Why was the operation "right sized" in the first place? How about the "we are overstaffed since the merger" crap that some still believe? Pilots will bitch about this or that, bu...

Re: Who Wants to Fly WJ

It would have been interesting to see Westjet's winter program this year without the Sunwing flying. Another point is that Westjet loves to claim that they were the only major airline not to get government loans during COVID. That is true, but they were negotiating for loans during that time, so it...

Re: Who Wants to Fly WJ

Sunwing airlines was never intended to make money. It was all about costing the vacation company less money. In the best of times it never made a cent. It was ran as an expense. Think hotel shuttle bus. It would be pretty easy to prove your hotel shuttle bus isn’t making any money. That doesn’t mea...

Re: Who Wants to Fly WJ

Still people are tired of the bitching... especially from an airline that was about to go bankrupt. Also, the grass ain't greener elsewhere. That's just the reality of Canadian Aviation. I guess you need more year round experience in Canada to see how much the whole industry is behind here (rum and...

Re: Why WestJet?

The 1000hrs on WJ aircraft requirement has been in place for a number of years. Ask any encore pilot who stayed at encore for a lengthy period of time and then came to WJ and tried to upgrade before they met the same requirement. That being said, I'm not sure why it is in place for SWG FOs who are ...

When a wj first officer upgrades after x years of service he goes directly to x years on the capt payscale. Swg capt are put on the captain payscale according to the number of years as a captain. So a wj fo upgrading today after 10 years of company will be on the 10 year capt payscale. A Swg captai...

How many major airlines in the USA and Europe have socialized bidding ? Seniority bidding allows crews to decide if they want the lifestyle or the upgrade which is a win/win. Re: Why WestJet?

This my opinion. If you are 35 or younger, you are probably better off going to WestJet. Even if you end up waiting 10 years for an upgrade, you still have potentially 20 years left in that left seat. And remember, if you upgrade at year 10, you go straight to year 10 captain scale. And while you w...

Re: 150 Pilots forced move out of YYZ

A reduction bid or a full rebid are the only ways to get everybody back on seniority order. Without that bid, some Captains from Sunwing would be out of seniority. A rebid was expected on the 1 year anniversary of the arbitration, it doesn’t come as a surprise. SWG workforce was heavily based East, ...

Apparently that's what was told to current transition class.
Going from 60 in 2024, 0 in 2025, to suddenly 400 in 2026 sounds optimistic.

Re: WestJet Encore applies for LMIA to hire foreign pilot

Everyone is hiring. Porter is running classes now, AC is running classes now, Encore has planes parked due to lack of crews Westjet is running transition classes from Sunwing but that will only be for 3 more months. Rumour mill has been printing that WestJet will not be hiring for the rest of the y...
