Re: Information on new hire salary, base, types to expect.

Congrats! Also you get a DC pension where AC matches your contribution up to 6%. After year 2 there is a supplemental plan where AC increases their contributions. After year 5 they are giving you 10.5% on top of your 6% contribution. We also have a profit sharing plan but don't count on that! YUL, Y...

Re: ACPA approves Business Class at rouge

This from a recent interview with Ben: "We had some big challenges on Western Canada-California customer expectations and we now have a ten year pilot contract, no strike no lock out on very good terms. With that it eased some of the restrictions they had imposed on us which allowed us to put the pr...

Re: ACPA approves Business Class at rouge

So...Back to my original post I understand that AC has a letter from ACPA, a drawer letter of sorts. It allows a business class product on the rouge A319's. I wonder if we will get to see it and to see who's signature is on it.

Re: ACPA approves Business Class at rouge

FB Actually the first sentence under Scope in the LCC LOU does mention service levels. "The mandate of the LCC will be limited to the market segment seeking low-cost air travel." Business Class is not low-cost air travel. The language is simple and clear, a fact I think an arbitrator would appreciat...

Re: ACPA approves Business Class at rouge

Ogopogo... ACPA has a say because the contract language, which was written by the company during FOS in 2012, expressly states the aircraft may be configured economy/premium economy - not business class. That said I don't have a problem with it if it's what our customers, such as yourself, want tha...

ACPA approves Business Class at rouge

http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/1543401/air-canada-invests-in-improved-premium-product-on-air-canada-rouge Clearly it's a domestic business class product. Here's a shot: https://www.facebook.com/aircanadarouge/photos/a.282126851913154.65657.258456120946894/700685010057334/?type=1 So who are we now c...

Re: Pension

The most frustrating thing to me is the that the company can now buy back shares rewarding themselves and shareholders rather than be forced to over contribute to our pension fund as was previously agreed to. Next is the fact that we have agreed to raise our contribution level without the chance for...

Re: Pension

DP

Maybe the multitude of pay rates (over 20 when the B737 shows up) can be addressed next time? Maybe the pilots will be ready for a simpler status pay or pay grouping system like the one we voted against in 2011?

Maybe next time...

Re: Pension

DP, "As the years go on, and DC membership rises, the "stragglers" with the DB pension package will be in jeopardy." If this is true there must be some examples of this happening to other workers. The worst pension disaster I can think of was the Nortel shutdown where DB pensioners lost pretty well ...

Re: Pension

The DC plan, although it will likely pay out much less, has some advantages. It will still be there at 100% if the company goes bankrupt. It does not lose 50-60% of its payout if the employee dies. It is also portable. So imagine the ability to pack up and move offshore to finish up your career in a...

Re: AC's Pension Program

Raven Thanks I went back to the ACPA website and found a lengthy but very informative Pension newsletter from Jan 12, 2012. So the SERP risk depends on how big of a pension you get. If you are near the max allowable pension benefit then about 30% (not 50%) comes out of AC's General revenues. I belie...

Re: AC's Pension Program

Final Offer Selection - a Torie life ring thrown in to stop a distruptive strike or lockout during failed negotiations. It interferes in the bargaining process. It also stops an incompetent Union leadership from sinking their own ship and losing certification. As for the DC it has its pros and cons....

Re: FP60 update Federal Court of Appeals

I just finished reading the submissions and am not too concerned. I doubt that the FP60 group will have anything to celebrate about. It seems to me that they have quite a hill to climb in order to gain retribution for their perceived losses. In fact I see that both AC and ACPA are seeking legal cost...

Re: ACPA Leadership

Sounds like Young, a non pilot, served the BALPA pilots very well. Perhaps that's what ACPA needs. An independent thinker who's salary is not tied directly to the corporation's financial health. They wouldn't even need an MBA  ! ALPA is a very good organization but maybe we could create someth...

Re: ACPA Leadership

ACPA conducted an independent governance review following the series of events that led to binding arbitration. The report was highly critical of the radical approach taken by ACPA following the 66% rejection of the tentative agreement signed in 2011 and the recalls of elected officials. The biggest...

Interesting comparison Doug. You were hired in the "glory days!" Ha ha how long did those days last anyway? I'm guessing you got laid off in the early '80's? I can't find the pay tables anywhere but if memory serves me well I think your B747 skipper was making about $120k annually which works out to...

Re: 10 year agreement with pilots

Back to the real thread... New hire wages have been addressed in the last two rounds after years of neglect. The TA and resulting arbitration brought the flat pay up to an hourly rate from a $39,000 fixed salary. This TA brings up the floor and increases the hourly rate again. They say a new hire fi...

Re: Rouge bidding, days off and such

Too bad nobody responded. It's a pretty good gig I understand so most guys over there don't want to talk about it too much about it in case ACPA screws it up on them. Case in point we are voting on a change that if passed will let the company avoid buying a trip trade program like WJ uses. Just vote...

Re: Rouge Payscale

More importantly, why does a CA from years 1 to 4 in a 767 get paid less than on an A319? Doesn't make sense! In the original agreement we had blended pay rates so the actual pay on the 767 was higher than the 319 (see my post above). Once the 737 starts showing up that will introduce 2 more rates ...

Yes, I almost forgot about those childish tactics. One of the funniest things that happened while these bozo's were running the asylum was when one of the Pilot X's unknowingly called an MLO and told him to book off! To the manager's credit he said he had a meeting to attend so wouldn't be participa...
