Encore not flying there would be a problem.

Re: Flair off runway excursion YKF
There are several "Wow"s in the report. There had been 23 defects reported that were related to the left thrust reverser during the 6 months leading up to the occurrence. During that time the left thrust reverser defect had been deferred per the MEL on 6 occasions. Three of those deferrals were gran...

TSB report out; https://www.tsb.gc.ca/eng/rapports-reports/aviation/2022/a22o0161/a22o0161.html When the captain applied maximum braking, there was 2500 feet of runway remaining, and the aircraft was travelling at a ground speed of 115 knots with no speed brakes, one engine at near maximum thrust, a...

Transport Canada didn’t do diddly squat. Maybe you’re thinking of the CTA? Or the competition bureau. Transport Canada is good at doing two things. Running old exams for young pilots with questions that don’t mean anything in today’s world, and 2nd…… sending stickers 12 months late The Gazette I po...

Re: Sunwing/Westjet
Oh please - can we stop with the "Sunwing wasn't viable and was going under" Bullshit. There is nothing that points to this. If any of you had bothered to look up the company financials - you would find we made $70 - $100 million profit, ($20 million in 2019 due to new hotels being built) just abou...

As far as those at WS telling us that "we at WG were saved" can they please provide their link to the private books of Stephen Hunter who owns the WG group and the private books of ONEX so that we can judge for ourselves who is and isn't profitable? This link paints a slightly different pic than th...

Any merge scenario (arbitrated or not) that results in a large displacement of one group or base is unlikely to pass judicial review. DOH with re-bid falls under this category.

Re: Sunwing/Westjet
Last year I added 50% to my pay without feeling overworked, eventhough I have a low seniority. So I am not excited about the merger It looks like WestJet pilots still believe their contract is superior If both sides are smart—and we know they are—they should objectively look at the best parts of ea...

If that's the case, then the ARs should have to go first. Couldn't agree more. I have a feeling that program will disappear now that the age 67 proposal in the US is officially shot down. It is costing WJ a lot of money to keep the AR program going, and will only increase every year as more choose ...

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority
Early contract renegotiation opportunity That would be temporary until November or so. The Sunwing agreement doesn't have YOS. A first year Captain at WestJet is being paid the year 10 Captain rate, as that is roughly what the current upgrade time is. You will find zero support for the strategy you...

Re: PWA vs CP Air merger
Westjet ALPA seems intent on going to war with Sunwing pilots, and "winning" the merger, even if it means shooting themselves in the foot during the process. They can't even be bothered to consider adopting parts of the Sunwing contract that are better than their own, because all of their resources...

They've got to pay their tax bill somehow. Writing is on the wall. Sharpen your resume. Every occasion isn't an occasion to hit on your favourite nail, AIFs got nothing to do with revenu. It's straight up taxes. Nope. Airlines are paid 4%-7% by the airports for collecting the fee. It generates reve...

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority
Beyond the additional high credit work, it's the fact that Onex wants to grow the combined group. This gives leverage to all involved to improve the combined contracts. The Sunwing pilot contract has some benefits compared to the Westjet contract, and it would be great if some of these would be inc...

Management has openly talked about launching a Southern Ontario base that would combine flying from YKF and YYZ. Transportation to and from either airport would then be up to the pilot. If they can get away with a Southern Ontario I would bet that YKF will close as a crew base. Swoop tried to do th...

Ant, I've been all through these forums, I've seen all kinds of different opinions on this and similar programs. The article mentions that the Canadian pilots were unhappy with the deal, but not that they challenged it and won. A new agreement with a more favorable ratio was awarded.

Who is going to reconfigure their aircraft? Sunwing (189 seats) or WestJet (174 seats) on the -800s and 8s.? Sunwing Airlines is designed to fill up resorts. I don't see them reducing their seats configuration. The vacation division will be run by Sunwing management. Steven Hunter, Len, and Andrew ...

WJ ALPA seems to forget they recommended the current agreement to the pilot group not that long ago. There was a pilot shortage back then too.
They absolutely did not recommend this agreement. It was forced upon them in arbitration. No recommendation, no vote.

So, facing likely forced arbitration, the union attempted to still negotiate to put itself in the best position possible while covering its mandate (one of which was trying to prevent the company moving too much flying to lower wages at Swoop). Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily agree with eve...
