Re: Has anyone ever successfully got offered training "quick
It varies considerably based on when you apply. Sometimes you get lucky and apply right before an assessment and a scheduled course. Sometimes you apply right after a test and they don't have any courses planned. Tough to say where you'll fall. On my course, the time from first application to first ...

Re: Considering Change from Airlines to ATC
Demand in southern ontario is greatest at CYYZ and CYTZ. But you could be posted anywhere. If you do pass the online test, send out a quick email to whatever HR contact is listed on the site. There is an assessment coming up in October and you'll want to get on that (the next one probably won't be f...

Re: NavCanada testing
The math isn't complicated. Basic algebra is all you need. It is more about logic and problem solving than it is testing you math skills.

Re: I guess i just sit back and wait?
That's exactly what you do. Keep an eye out on the upcoming assessments part of the site and see if anything pops up in your region. If something does pop up and they don't send you an email invite then give them a call or email on the number/address provided. They might still be able to squeeze you...

To add, Manchester/Gatwick have signficantly less traffic than Pearson. And Heathrow is only slightly busier (~10%).

Yes.photofly wrote:And if a pilot says "Cancel IFR, maintain alerting" - is that clear enough for you not to need to ask a further question?

Re: Commercial pilots - Closing flight plan while airborne
Whether you tell me you are cancelling IFR or closing your flight plan, I'm still going to ask about alerting services. I know it's very clear in the wording what the difference is. However, why would I risk a potential issue after the fact just because I didn't get clarification from a pilot that m...

Re: changes to ATC pension plan for new hires
There's a significant difference between the two. The new plan is nowhere near as good as the old. Does it make the job suck? Oh god no. The benefits are still great. The pay is great. The freedom is great. This shouldn't deter you one bit from applying or continuing in the process. It just isn't as...

Re: Requesting a Visual after being Cleared for Approach
Where are you people getting your false information? Reporting the airport or preceding traffic is one of the most important things a pilot can do in a high density terminal environment particularly where parallel approaches are in operation and has these advantages: 1. IFR separation (3 miles or 1...

Re: Requesting a Visual after being Cleared for Approach
Correct me if I am wrong but I can think of a couple advantages of calling the field visual even if you are number 3 to land. I agree that if you call the field visual it does not necessarily change anything however it does give the terminal / tower controller the option to re-clear you for a visua...

Re: Requesting a Visual after being Cleared for Approach
You're 100% right about the speed change thing. Asking is clogging up the frequency. Regarding calling the field while on another approach, the only advantage I can see is if you want to fly a visual instead (and descend at your discretion as oppose to on the glide path). It really does nothing for ...

Re: Cleared "via Direct"
What about similar phraseology for IFR clearance while still on the ground? For example (you're on the ground in Grande Prairie): "ATC clears C-FAAA to the Edmonton City Centre Airport via Grande Prairie direct, maintain FL210, squawk 1234". I would take this clearance to mean that you take off and...

Re: Recruiting process for ATC
The first interview is actually 100% scripted. The interviewer has a set of questions he has to ask. Everyone is asked the exact same questions. Then he grades your response. This is really the only fair way to do it. And it is mostly situational/behavioral. A lot of what would you do in this situat...

Just got the green light too. Did the interview yesterday so they were super fast on my end too.
Hopefully this means they have a training course coming up and are trying to expediate the process as much as possible.

Hey Driving Comet,
I too got a green light last week. Haven't heard anything about interviews yet though. Hopefully we here something soon!
