Re: ATPL for co-pilots on a 705 Aircraft

How are all the pilots in Europe supposed to get 1500 hours first without flying for an airline? I've never heard of a guy in France move 'up north' to get PIC time on a float plane. I guess we could send them all to Canada to take time building jobs here. I'd suggest starting as a rampie in Yellowk...

If you're looking for Southern Ontario / GTA go with Dr. Gilmore. Did mine there, very fast and efficient.

Re: 2016 Ramp Wait Times?

I agree with most of what has been said above. Starting out is tough of course but if you can avoid the ramp I would. I never worked the ramp and started off with a very basic aerial survey job on single engine pistons getting a few hours here and there. Not much later I got hired with the same airl...

Re: My plans for my career as a Airline Pilot - am I correct

I am originally from Germany, have done something similar in Canada and have flown there for the previous 4 years including work for a small local operator. I recently moved to a different country though for my next flying job. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. However, like ...

Re: FAA Foreign Licence Validation Letter

CPL or ATPL conversion? I second rolowang's post. The actual validation letter comes fairly quickly. Did mine pretty much a year ago and it would say around two weeks for the letter is realistic. Definitely not 45 days. I also recall waiting for a long time for the actual FAA licence in the mail. To...

Re: Looking to Build time

I second the Buttonville Flying Club post. Since you're looking in Southern Ontario that should be your first spot to go to. Plenty of guys there with their own planes offering rides in all different types of aircraft (old and new). Bring some coffee and maybe a few dollars to offer the sharing of t...

Re: Horsing around on 121.50.

I hate VFR common frequencies... My favourite: Aircraft 1: Oh hey is that Dave? Aircraft 2: Yes it is! Mike is that you? Aircraft 1: You bet it is. Hi Dave! Aircraft 2: Hey Mike, how's the weather out there? (clear VFR day) Aircraft 1: Pretty nice over here. What about you Dave? Aircraft 2: Pretty n...

Re: Flight School in Toronto

I have nothing but good things to say about Canadian Flyers. Maybe my personal case was a little different but Canadian Flyers provided a great flight school environment and helped me to finish my training in a efficient and timely manner. No complaints here. I started flying with them when they wer...

I want to agree with fish4life. I did not want to find myself speculating since we still have very little information about this accident however it becomes increasingly difficult to stay out of it. These accidents are very tragic in my opinion because they are very avoidable and yet they keep happe...

Re: I'm Doing Resumes Again

xsbank helped me boosting my resume at the beginning of the year. Shortly after I got a call for an interview with a major airline with considerably low hours and ended up getting the job. Definitely wouldn't have gotten the call if my resume wouldn't have been sticking out over the hundreds and tho...

Re: Conversions: TCCA -> FAA

I have done the TC - FAA CPL conversion earlier this year and would say I know a thing or two about the process. Those requirements stated are minimum requirements necessary for a license conversion. So if it says that you need to have 250 hours TT for the conversion, then you need to have 250 hours...

Re: Headset Competition S1 VS Zulu PFX VS AV100 VS A20

Good on you for deciding to get a proper headset. Not a lot of students understand the necessity of spending $1000 on a headset. But it really makes sense. I personally have owned a Bose A20 for 2 years now and never looked back. One of the best aviation related investments that I've done in the rec...

Good on the pilot for not trying to drag it to the airport for another 7.5nm. Could have ended differently when the precautionary turns into a forced out there.

Re: TransAsia Airways plane carrying more than 50 people cra

Why they didn’t do that drill is over my head. I know, I wasn’t in that cockpit but as Xs says above, we’re looking at the basics of multi-engine flying. Fair point. Basically you really only learn one thing when you get your Multi Rating. And that's what you are going to do when that second engine...

Re: Aircraft on Lake by Kasabonika

I don't understand why you wouldn't file a VFR flight plan when flying a single engine piston in these areas of the country? I know it can be 'annoying' but it literally takes no more than 5 minutes and can save your life one day. I understand if you don't want to file one for a 45 minute flight fro...

I have to agree with what has been said above. Traditionally especially fatal air accidents always have two sorts of big impacts. The first one obviously being the impact on friends and families affected by the accident on a very personal and emotional level. The other one is on the pure business si...

Places you visit, ask the rampies or pilots if you can borrow a couch for the night - buy a 2-4 and a pizza in return. That'll cut down on costs - unless you start buying expensive German beer  Here in Ontario local beer unfortunately is more expensive than the german import ($2.95 per tall c...

Re: AirAsia plane missing between Indonesia and Malaysia

True story. I've heard all pilots of America Airlines are handflying all flights within US airspace. Because, you know, that's just what Cowboys do. But then again, they also smoke a cigarette while doing that. On a more serious note, according to BBC parts were spotted that appear to belong to the ...
