Re: The Sealand RED V12 Diesel Beaver flies!

It's always been my understanding that although a diesel engine could burn Jet-A, it wouldn't do well in the long run as diesel fuel had lubricating properties for a diesel engines piston rings etc. that Jet-A does not have. Am I wrong on this? and if not do they address this through modifications o...

Re: Gazette Part 1 - New fatigue management regulations proposed

So if you apply for and receive approval to operate under an FRMS you can submit any schedule you want and have to count on your regional TC rep to approve it? Does that mean a company in one region might be operating under a schedule that a company in another region was denied? Also, what happens i...

Re: Ornge Sikorsky Air ambulance accident Northern Ontario

Frankly I don't see anything wrong with expecting a pilot who is operating under VFR to require VMC, and for these Conditions to include the ability to orientate your aircraft relative to and by remaining in sight of the ground. A more accurate line of thinking would be to question whether the gener...

Re: Survivor of PASCO Crash Talks About His Survival

It was a while ago so maybe I'm not remembering properly but didn't PASCO put out some sort of press release or article in a Vancouver paper after this accident basically saying it was the customer's (company contracting them, not those particular pax) fault for putting lots of pressure on them to g...

If you are willing to go slumming and ride a helicopter instead Helijet has a recip jump seat with Air Canada (at least they did when I flew there in 2010) We also had deals with Harbour air/West Coast Air, It was either free or 20$, I can't remember.

Landing in a control zone at a place other than an airport

I'm curious what is meant by the phrase "Land your discretion" vs "Cleared to land", and at the risk of asking a stupid question can I land without it if I am landing at a spot within a control zone that is NOT at the airport? (in my case a roof top helipad) Its my understanding that a "Land your di...

IFR clearances and "Clearance Cancelled if not airborn by X"

Curious about how things work behind the scenes when I get my clearance, and the differences between me getting it from an airport thats controlled, one with a FSS and from aerodrome with no agency. Last night we departed a larger airport in the wee hours of the morning (Read MF vs Tower Controller)...

Shouldn't you expand this? Yes, I assumed if the thing was smart enough to know that it was not in the right sensitivity mode it would tell us to conduct a missed, but it just kept right on going to the next two step-down waypoints, and then the missed approach waypoint as though it was a normal approach. Thats what I don't g...

Question for people out there with more Garmin 530 experience then me.
