Been reading through all the responses on this thread. Very interesting. It's no secret that flying an airplane is mostly about decision making. I believe it also to be true, that flying, as in most of life, is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you deal with it. I don't know all of the circumstan...

The Boss

I was wondering how many pilots/employees out there are comfortable approaching the boss about things that are bothering them? For example, it could be maintanence, weather related topics, pay, safety, or any other number of issues that affect what we do. Are the owners/operators approachable? Will ...

Using another frequency would solve the problem of congestion on 126.70, and thus, I don't know why they haven't found a solution to that problem. It wouldn't be difficult. Having said that though, I am grateful for RCO's. There are some locations where (due to terrain), the only way to talk to some...

If an obviously overweight passenger (more than the standard weight published), walks through the door to get on board one of our aircraft, I will personally ask for their weight. Or have them stand on a scale. It's the PIC's responsibility to make sure the aircraft is properly loaded and within C o...

Floats

Looking for some information on where to go for a basic float rating? Ideally, in the Victoria or Vancouver area. But Kelowna and area would work also. In addition, please list the type of aircraft used, approximate cost, and perhaps a company or two who you'd recommend flying with, and why? Thanks.

Take the PIC time....I'm sure it won't be time wasted.

Every job that I've had in this industry is due to the fact that I've known someone who is already there (or has been there) or having the fortune of being in the right place at the right time. A diploma program does offer some things that you won't get at a local flying club or FBO, but when it com...

Keep in mind that it's not just students who make mistakes or use the radios inappropriately when transmitting. Last weekend, a few students and I listened in as a couple of King Air drivers jibber-jabbered on the radio in uncontrolled airspace on the ATF. These are supposed to be the professinals. ...

During a flight school audit, TC should give the CFI a list of how your school compares with the national averages. This would include scores on the flight tests and writtens. They gave us a list, and we're doing quite well! But generally, across the country, so are many. There do seem to be a few e...

Advertising.

To all those instructors and flight school personnel out there: First of all, what sort of advertising do you use to draw more clients to consider your school? Signs, ads in the newspaper, word of mouth, internet, training fleet?? Secondly, what in your opinion sets apart one FTU from another? After...

Good on ya Disco Stu for posting some positive comments about the industry!! I am fortunate as well to be at a company where the pilots are treated fairly, pay is decent, and overall working conditions are good. Look at it this way, be happy where you are, because things could be much, much worse. A...

Sorry to hear of your troubles. That would suck. Was your application looked at by an authorized person? Was your PPL signed off? If so, the AP should be in trouble. Thanks for all the replies, but explain to me how you can fly 221 hours in one month? Is that legal? Or do you mean that you worked 221 hours in total and flew less??

Once upon a time that would have been legal but I don't know that it is now.

I'd be rich if I could fly that much!

So I was wondering how many hours per month the average pilot actually logs? Who out there in aviation land has a few thousand hours and some good experience in the logbook and looking for work? Anyone? This is not an ad for work, I was just wondering who is bored at their job and thinking they'd rather be somewhere else?
