Re: BE-10

Hello, I am responding to ask for some clarification on some of the advice given about the BE10. What exactly is meant by "leaving the gear and flaps up as long as possible," and how does "staying high and fast" facilitate successful approaches? I am not asking these questions to be argumentative, n...

Waterwings, your info sounds quite accurate. Wayne certainly deserves a lot of credit for always taking time out for low timers (and other applicants), and he has given many people their start in aviation.

Shimmy,
I have to agree with you on another hockey related thread. Glenn Healy is indeed totally pathetic as a colour man. Watching him today doing Montreal vs. New Jersey was painful. Maguire is also hard to take - makes you appreciate how good many of the other commentators are.

Shimmy, I will second you on Sakic as the best active. Certainly the young guns (Crosby, Ovechkin, et al) will soon take over the NHL, but for consistently being Mr. Everything to his team, and a decent guy to boot, Sakic is tough to argue against. P.S. Anyone who appreciates the beauty of his wrist...

Do we stop to think that maybe the Aborigines felt this way when Europeans came to Australia? The irony of this thread is incredible - many of the same people who say "boo-hoo, poor natives" are now up in arms about immigration and threats to "national safety." As a whole (I know you personally have...

I always had the Smurfs pegged as a clean community of hippies - never really thought to assign a political view to them. I believe the mushroom buildings in their village were drawn to look like the hallucinogenic variety. The origin of the name 'Smurf' was always what I pondered. Does anyone know ...

It makes me chuckle to hear whining about maxing out at $85 000 to live in Saskatoon when I know some of the same people want to take a job making $40 000 based in Toronto. Yes, the shirt thing mi...

Speaking of upgrades at TWA:
in a previous thread certain posts made reference to a lack of internal upgrades for the northern pilots. Anyone care to shed any more light on this? Why would TWA not upgrade FOs who are ready?

Hey Bushpilot, I think you're right that survivability is important, but projecting a professional image goes a long way. Survival sense and professionalism are not mutually exclusive. Northern Sask. is not the only hostile environment for flying, and yet airline pilots, government pilots, etc. mana...

Hey Big Daddy B, I'm guessing that Neverfail is just trolling - he can't possibly mean those things, and it just smells of someone looking to rile others up. All the companies in Sask are staffed by a vast majority of good people. I knew things weren't good for NDA when the supply of firewood at YSF...

I wondered how long it would take someone to start a rumour about WWA running a northern sched. I'm surprised it took this long. The problems that have always existed at AAL/TWA between "Senior Northern Pilot" and the rest of the employees are bad for morale and mainly just a waste of energy. Everyo...

Mcrit, I'm not knocking the value of instructing - obviously something to be learned in any type of flying. My point was that someone along the way decided instructing was twice as valuable as co-pilot time - and there is no distinction between those who instruct beginners in a 152 and those who tak...

The discussion of 1 instructing hour = 1 hour towards the ATPL raises another question (maybe better suited to another forum): Why is it considered more valuable to instruct than sit in a two- crew, turbine aircraft over 12500lbs in actual IFR? Does anyone else think this doesn't make sense? I think...

Next Step

Klim, Certainly some solid advice from Airtids and others. The journey is the fun part - how many airline types would give a limb to be back flying floats? Keep doing a solid job and the universe will unfold the way it's supposed to. There isn't a pilot out there who hasn't benefited from good fortu...

Your favourite aircraft...

Hey MS737,
Nothing really wrong with the Jetstream, but wouldn't you love to have the performance of the 1900D? I've probably been above FL 200 four times in my time on the BA31. Great aircraft to learn to flight planning and hands-on flying, but more power would be nice.
