Re: Ferrying light singles jobs ?

To what Europilot has to say. His attitude may be questionable, or even objectionable, but he is correct as to the difference between Canadian and European aviation. I work over the pond so to speak, and you will find 140-200 hour guys/gals sitting in the RHS of transport category aircraft. For thos...

Re: Canadians working in the EU?

So for those of us who can't justify paying tens of thousands to fly overseas, are there options for flying in Europe without converting? For example countries that don't require pilots to be JAA licensed? The short answer would be "NO". Mostly all European Union Countries are involved with the JAA...

Re: Canadians working in the EU?

I have 800 hours multi so that means that I don't have to take the MCC course right?!? Multi Engine and multi pilot time are two separate different things. A Piper Seneca is a multi engine aircraft but a single pilot operation. If you are flying for an operator which specifies in their OPS manual t...

Re: Canadians working in the EU?

To convert a Canadian CPL/Multi IFR to a JAA CPL/Multi IFR (Frozen ATPL) you will have to jump through many hoops. 1. JAA Class 1 Medical, has to be conducted at an approved aeromedical centre, ie Gatwick for the UK 2. 14 Written exams, including 750 hrs of ground school (which can be self study) 3....

Re: Canadians working in the EU?

Regarding validations: A national authority within the JAA, (ie the CAA in the UK) will validate a non-JAA ICAO licence in exceptional circumstances. For example, a Canadian pilot with an A320 rating and over 1500 hours on type may get a "validation" based on their Canadian credentials. The validati...

Re: Has anyone here converted their Canadian ATPL to a JAA ATP?

JS is correct. If you have 1000 hours??? PIC etc on jet 100,000 lbs (737) or bigger you are exempt. (You do 2 exams) Sorry, but this is inaccurate. If you have 1500 hours PIC on a B737/A320 you may recieve a "Validation" from the issuing JAA country based on your Non-JAA licence. This validation is...

Morav wrote:What about getting the exams mailed to an EU embassy here in Canada and writing them there??
The short answer to that one would be no. It's the same for a European wanting to write the Canadian exams, have to plan a trip to Canada.

As has been mentioned in previous posts. The problem in Asia and Africa is not the 200 hour "wonder" first officer. If that was your case than Europe would have been suffering the same fate for the past 30 years. European airlines are some of the safest in the world along with their North American a...

I really can't believe what I read on this fourm sometimes. Why must the argument go on and on and on.... about these 200 hour wonder pilots. It's time we give it a rest. Let us conclude that yes in Canada, maybe because the air is different, the snow is different from other parts of the world, or B...

You don't have to be old and grey to fly in an airline. Give the new guys a "fair" chance to prove themselves. The good thing about flying here in Europe is you can get a flight deck with two pilots under 30.

My advice to all who are going to take the plunge.....

Do your research!!! Know what exactly what you have to do and the cost before you leave Canada. It's a serious gamble with both time and money. Know what you are getting yourself into.

Most of the 200 hour "wonder" pilots in Europe don't graduate from the big KLM and Lufthansa type flight colleges. They go to a flying school get their PPL, CPL, Multi IFR and write the exams and go applying for jobs. Much like what most Canadian pilots do.

Both Switzerland and Italy are JAA Member States. Each JAA country issues its own licence but through mutual recognition (in theory) the licence should be accepted throughout the JAA. ie. able to fly an a/c you are rated on on any JAA registered a/c.

The JAA will not accept a foriegn ICAO-Non-JAA ATPL for a direct swap to a JAA ATPL. If you have the required time ie. high time/type rated pilot, the CAA/JAA will validate your foriegn licence but they won't give you a JAA ATPL. Even if you have 15,000 hours you will still have to to all of the exa...

At 4 quid a pint, beer ain't cheap either. Where the hell are you drinking?? You must be surrounded by Prince William and Harry, Hugh Grant, Emma Bunton, Kate Moss when you go drinking! I usually pay £2.50 a pint. Sometimes they have some good £1.80 specials. You should do some more pub crawling if...

I knew it was only a matter of time before I comment on this one, so here we go. There seems to be myths of the "200 hour Wonder" that some can't get out of their head. Being a Captain for a major European airline, who does hire low time pilots I can honestly say the that some of you need to leave t...

My two cents (pence) worth: I know guys who are type rated (A320/737) from non-JAA states with time on type and they have to write all 14 JAA ATPL subject examinations to convert to JAA. If you hold an ICAO non-JAA ATPL, that will only exempt you from the 750 hours of required ground school to write...

There are two kinds of pilots on this thread....the pilots for the supposed cadet progam and the pilots against it. In Canada you don't hear of airline category aircraft going down, you do however, hear of these occurrences in other parts of the world. The idea of a 200-hour pilot trying to land an RJ with even a 10 kt X-wind in minor turbulence, and say on a visual day is a scary thought; they would also have a hell of a time with the Dash. They could not do it with any degree of success without practice, and I don’t mean sim time. They lack the...
