A threat by not having one, therefore harder to justify ours at negotiation time. Management is trying to pull it away - it is a huge liability for them but a bigger benefit to us pilots. My 6% will give me a return of roughly $125K/year, my 14% (to match your 20%) will give me whatever I can get fr...

Few points to ponder - at WJ you put in 20% of pre-tax income to the ESP to get matched. At AC our pension contribution is about 6%. We then have 14% income to invest as we want. It would be almost impossible to do better than this. Don't waste brain cells thinking pension rules in Canada and the US...

Martin - reread the last few pages of the salary award, I stand by my statement. Otherwise I'm with sobering up (within 12 hours anyways :D ). Between age 60, merger history, ACE payout, and ? other issues ACPA seems to always be running down roads that lead nowhere instead of leading a united pilot...

Landgreen - sorry my friend but I think you are misinformed. WJ and LCC's are a big part of the problem. You think the group that cut our contract off at the knees for 9 years and get a raise suddenly lead the pack? C'mon... The arbitrator felt AC pilots are still better compensated that WJ pilots i...

Tony - perhaps you should explain to these kids that 30W isn't on the way to the Bahamas. And it is easy to read the taxi chart in London....Ontario. There is only one major airline in Canada. Sadly WJ does potentially pay more for the first few years thanks to the position group at AC. But 100 plus...

I think this is a bad idea. If time is good enough for the logbook, it should be good enough for the licence. And I don't understand how this is supposed to improve safety... since when does logging time but not counting it make one safer? Very few pilots in Canada would hold ATPL's without counting...

This thread scares me - most of you pilots better pull your heads out of your arses. EMJ pilots make about 33% less than did DC9 pilots (roughly the same size), A320 pilots are making 20% less than a few years ago and the rest of AC took a 15% cut. What's horrible is the number of pilots who can't s...

KAG - what are you looking for? Guelph, Orangeville and Cambridge are nice with reasonable commutes. If you don't have kids consider downtown Toronto. Rents are going down in YYZ - nice one bedrooms in High Park for 750 - 1000/month, newish condo's in Queens Quay or Yonge and Eglington for just over...

Jazz for sure. Going overseas is much easier from a Dash or RJ in an airline environment than it is from the Lear, as fun as the Lear is. Most Jazz newhires are straight to the RJ, and RJ f/o beats Lear skipper any day. Don't downplay Jazz or overestimate the Lear. Holding out for AC is a gamble, an...

I fly Air Canada out of respect for previous generations of pilots who worked to make aviation what is was. What it is now is our fault. Take the time to read the interview in the Sept/Oct Wings with the Delta pilot who flew the Vimy on its recent tour. That is why I fly Air Canada and dislike Westj...

RVSM - I'd love for you to stay on topic. This thread is about a guy wondering about career potential. I gave my thoughts based on numbers I stand by. Why are they wrong, I'd be happy to be corrected by numbers and not rhetoric. Methinks you are already a skipper and are not really in tune with how ...

RVSM - Nobody asked about AC. And those estimates are total crap. Sure some new planes are arriving so you will hire. But the 200 guys are senior to the non-captains on the 700, so yes, some upgrades should occur but those upgrades won't extend very far down the current f/o list. Getting hired tomor...

Never worked for either but I'd look hard at Harmony. At least if you start at Harmony today you might make Captain sometime in your life. If not at least the type rating is useful! The good days of upgrades and profit sharing are gone at WJ. WJ is very stable, and if low pay in YYC as a career f/o ...

Our only identity as Canadians is to not be Americans. Pathetic. America-bashing is a popular pastime and we get way too involved with it. America is far from perfect, no question, but deserves a lot more respect than we give it. Anybody that thinks Canadians would behave any better in a disaster is...
A legal opinion is exactly that, you guys don't need to be rude to Rebel for telling what he's heard and thinks. Nobody is proven right or wrong here yet, and I agree with Rebel that I hope the WJ jumpseat policy becomes standard. What is currently occuring has no bearing on what the law actually sa...
This thread is sad. Don't like Blastor? Don't read or respond. The Mod's are doing exactly what they should. Perhaps the real issue is some can't deal with WJ's fall from grace these days. Don't yell at Rebel, yell at whoever told you it was OK to get stocks and profit shares instead of a good contr...

A perfect three pointer could be an appropriate term, for a tail-wheel airplane. Maybe he thought it was a DC340? All pilots should avoid talking to the media, especially new pilots. Mr. JT must feel foolish if he's thought about what he said and sounded like on the news. Over our careers there will...
