Re: Cirrus ditching off Maui, 25 Jan 2015: Pilot OK

Seems to me the parachute actually accelerated the sinking of the aircraft by pulling it over. I counted a slow 16 from impact to complete submersion. The film was edited for effect. Clock at touchdown said 44:02 and 45:02 when it started under, so it actually took a minute for the chute to drag it...

I remember a flight to LHR from Montreal Mirabel , I forget if it was on AC or BA but it was something like 4hours 10 minutes runway to runway. Awesome.

Re: Something on a low ceiling approach into Dublin

Back in the 1980s I flew in and out of Dublin about 10 times a year via LHR on Aer Lingus 737s, a number of times we landed in fog that bad or worse....I remember one time , I was in 2F....looking out the window and I wasn't able to see the ground until 4-5 seconds before feeling the wheels touchdow...

Re: CBC bias against Air Canada

I've spent more than half my 59 years living outside of Canada and seen many various news services from around the world and quite frankly I think CBC does an excellent job and is pretty well neutral/centrist journalistically. It is far less politically loaded than the US news services especially co...

Back in the early 90s the Discovery Channel had a series on called "Wings of The Red Star" about Russian military aviation...was very good, along with its sister series "Wings of The Luftwaffe"

Re: How many people travel with no luggage?

if you purposely bring a carry on that won't fit to skirt around the fee, and unsurprisingly is relocated below, would the bag be subject to the fee. Seems a cheesy way to avoid paying the fee. Check-in/bag-drop staff are supposed to screen carry-ons for size. EasyJet have been confiscating, checki...

Re: Chance of getting hired with a tattoo?

I got my tat when I was 17 in 1972, when getting a tat really was about making either a statement or just pi**ing the man off. Now tats are common as dirt and no different than wearing a pair of jeans or those stupid hipster trilbys ........ Why somebody having a tat, in and of itself, should impact ...

Bang! That sucks!

It really is important to understand (a) what you’re putting in your airplane, where and (b) to handle it prudently if it has the potential to “go bang.” The Great Lakes CG Auxiliary was to transport a large inflatable raft and it accidentally inflated while being loaded. http://i198.photobucket.com...

While I agree they should be banned from all further flights, I would have to add that even if there is a sky Marshall on board these flights he would not make himself known in any of these circumstances. They are solely there when there is imminent and very serious danger to the aircraft and the l...

Surely it's different strokes for different folks......and chemistry.if the instructor and student have good chemistry all falls into place much faster and more solidly. I taught scuba and found most students retained lessons, did better on required skills and reacted to criticism much better if we h...

I've flown 4 flights on Rouge A-319 in Rouge Premium which is the Rouge psuedo-business class. Was it terrible? No...but considering that the cost to me was the exact same as I paid for full-business class on mainline AC for the same routes it was a huge step down in value for $$s paid. The FAs were...

I remember when the gummit was talking about replaceing tanks with those 105mm. upgunned LAVs....forget what they were actually called...but some military guys were telling me that the worst part of that idea was how quickly our military would lose the actual skill sets required to use, fight and mai...
