Re: Will Westjet survive?

WJ has reduced 60% of their costs, and currently operates a small domestic airline with about 30 airplanes. They have successfully reduced themselves to this size, parking 150 airplanes in only 2 months. 767's are retired. 787 deliveries are delayed, but they continue to operate 2 airplanes I believ...

Re: RCAF Cyclone Down

You could probably count on one hand, in the history of aviation, how many times the media has reported useful, accurate, and contextually relevant information regarding an aviation incident - especially soon after the occurrence. At my airline, a CBC reporter with a deadline published an article ab...

Re: When do you think flying will be back to february 2020 level

I think that more robust aircraft cleaning/sanitizing will be permanent. Social norms in terms of hand washing, more people doing what we were all taught to do as kids and cough/sneeze into your elbow etc., and I could also see some kind of questionnaire/legal statement confirming that you're health...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

cloak beat me to it with a similar post. Anyway... This "hold the line" analogy is quite ridiculous to me. In reality, holding the line refers to a war, in which individual soldiers sacrifice their lives to ensure that their battalion/platoon/company etc can maintain its position and not retreat and...

Re: A "NEW" One List?

I say this with an open mind. I really don't understand why prioritizing layoff mitigation, and doing as all the others have done and negotiating temporary (attached to an MOA with an expiry) pay concessions in order to save some jobs is not in the interest of WestJet pilots. I'd be happy to discuss...

The cuts were deep. Did very many Encore guys get to stay? I hope this is short lived and we’re back to normal soon. Good luck everyone and stay safe.
There were a few. Over 90% of Encore is laid off. If WJ MEC does any mitigation, there may be a few more.

Good luck everyone.

The MOA did not save 150 jobs. The fleet plan moving forward at reduced capacity always included the Q. Way to go. JJJ We went from 150 spots to 292. 142 more open spots for mainline to bump into... ...at the ultimate cost of 737 jobs higher up the food chain. And at the cost of worse terms for tho...

This $625 compensation that only goes to a select group of Encore employees, can you explain what compensation the laid off WJ pilots who bump into Encore get? Why don’t they get $625? They are not coming as beggars, with cap in hand. They agreed to sell out the seniority of their fellow bargaining...

Right….lets do damage control for now. But when its over, and people have visions of empty streets, empty grocery shelves, loved ones on ventilators, empty bank accounts and poor job prospects lets then look carefully at the cause so it doesn't happen again. Remember AIDS, or SARS? Same cause. You ...

In this era we are all very, very quick to de-identify, de-gender-ify, and de-culture-ify so as not to offend anyone or any group, even if that behavior results in millions of deaths over time. That's political correctness gone amok. Problem is, especially in this instance, the reason the outbreak ...

The virus, SARS-Cov2 is a member of the coronavirus family of viruses, and causes the disease, COVID-19. There are currently 2 strains of the virus as it mutated early on during communal spread in Wuhan. Italian politicians had a lukewarm, half committed response to the pandemic early on. 630 people...

Well with an 80% schedule cut, despite all the cost and complexity of the training/retraining/equipment move costs for your most valuable and expensive employee group, at some point you reach that number, where it does in fact save money to do some layoffs. I have no idea what it is and won't specul...

If the flight data is accurate, perhaps he saw a hole to get above the fog, but somehow got disoriented and got into a stall/spin into terrain? Following the highway, then a left turn climbing rapidly then a rapid descent into terrain. I'm assuming the pilot and aircraft were capable of IFR? Could h...

I'm not familiar with the area, but they were flying special VFR; weather was marginal VFR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0pQfgi9ZqU https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Kobe_Bryant "Others reported seeing it flying into the ground at a "fairly significant rate of speed." Just to clarify something I've seen incorrectly stated a few times about seniority before and after the PTA vote. Before: Pilot A hired at Encore, seniority number 2500, effective once they flow. Pilot B hired at WestJet, seniority number 2501, effective immediately. After: Pilot A hired at Encore, ...

I'll put my hat in this ring as well, although others have put it pretty well. First of all, STFU. 10 years ago, you would incur all the costs and risks that the initial poster mentioned, just to do a job hunting road trip to get a ramp job up north, then after 2 years of freezing your nuts off maki...

The last time the flow was three years was about 2 years ago. Simple math now makes it easy. 550 pilots / 75 (this is about what flows per year) flow per year = 7 years. Subtract the resignations and the few that flow than that number might come down to about 5, maybe 6 years. What's the flow speed...
