Re: window blows out on alaska airlines / emergency landing
I’ve been doing some reading that BA’s focus on meeting DEI targets, to the exclusion of proper management hiring and oversight is the cause of some of their problems. I believe it. No different than at Harvard except Harvard’s disgrace isn’t likely to kill anyone. Its infected the FAA. Today, the ...

With no airline experience and no maximum hours on the job posting I thought applying would be appropriate. I’m not understanding the “Something doesn’t add up”. I think the implication is, the something that doesn’t add up is, what’s wrong with your application? With that kind of time you can find...

Interesting time for sure. I can echo what others have said about flights being fuller than I can remember going into the shoulder season; not to mention how busy the entire summer was. Pent up demand? Continuation of previous growth estimates inline with population and economic growth? Combination ...

All unconfirmed rumour mill: - taxi package came out after the incident. - crew queried ground multiple times prior to taxiing that route - a military wing walker was in place Questions about vantage point from flight deck to wingtip: You can see the wingtips, but depth perception can be difficult i...

Re: Smaller Westjet vs Pay Pilots
Westjet pilots will fold like every other time, they'll go to arbitration and lose what they've achieved. Canadian pilots are scared, we are not the Americans, we are just nice Canadians. There'll be no strike, and the company is piling up money for the lockout. How long they'll be on lockout depen...

I always find that argument perplexing. Humans are part of nature not outside of it so by definition anything we do is a natural process, one wouldn't say a beaver building a dam to alter its environment is unnatural so why when humans do it, is it unnatural? I suspect it is just our species arroga...

Yikes. My guess is that none of the ULCC's in Canada (Lynx, Swoop, Flair, Jetlines) have had a profitable quarter. If that's the case, there's a competition of who has the lowest cash burn rate/who can stay solvent for the longest, before consolidation occurs and they can increase prices without sig...

Bluetooth/noise cancelling headset
Hey everyone, Just going to be lazy and ask for help from the collective knowledge out there: My current setup is the QC25 and uflymike. Works fine, getting a little tired/in need of refurbishment. I'd like to upgrade to the QC35 or 45 so I can use it for deadheading without wires and with a recharg...

What humans have done, and will continue to do, is interrupt the natural processes by rapidly dumping carbon in the atmosphere, which causes the planet to warm. I always find that argument perplexing. Humans are part of nature not outside of it so by definition anything we do is a natural process, ...

As a "for instance", thermohaline circulation (think of jetstreams in the oceans; rivers of relatively high temperature, high salinity water which flow from the equator to the poles, then cool, sink, and flow back to the equator) is a significant driver of regional climates, as it is a large global ...

To be very clear, we don't know all details of the company's plans yet, nor do we know if they will succeed in execution. ^ Disclaimer out of the way now... IF the Max purchase is for expansion and not replacement, and IF the Sunwing merger increases business and there's a fair settlement in terms o...

Yikes. Are people actually calling in sick more? Or is the effect of people calling in sick just bigger due to staffing issues? My educated guess is that it's both. As the give a f*** factor (the group towards the company, and the company towards the group) goes down, bookoffs go up, and as they ar...

I'm not as pessimistic, but definitely watching closely. It's true that the company has been beating the cost reduction drum pretty hard lately, but I'm not aware of them saying they're actually trying to compete with Flair (100% off base fare, for instance) on the WJ side, and if I'm not mistaken S...

I've seen a few posts on PPrune that suggest there are always 3 pilots in the flight deck of Chinese majors; can anybody confirm or deny this? If so, the Silkair/Germanwings cause strikes me as more unlikely.
Fingers crossed for good news about CVR/FDR memory soon.

To clarify some of the comments about flow: Prior to Covid, hundreds of Pilots flowed from Encore to WestJet, and that is very much the stated plan going forward. All pilots on the WPSL will be recalled by this summer, meaning that any additional pilots needed will come from a combination of flow an...

Big ups to Dave P, for being here year after year to give his real world, down to earth replies about WJ. We all respect him, but for me, a 705 airline actively recruiting 250 hour pilots is a move with one purpose and one purpose only. To keep wages and working conditions low. The more competitive...

Has there been a fundamental change in travel demand? My crystal ball, which is informed by a variety of analyst reports and forecasts, suggests that certain markets will recover rapidly to pre pandemic levels once restrictions are lifted and government rhetoric changes - for instance, North America...

Hey guys, I'll just jump in and say this: I agree with the overall sentiment that the federal government has not only failed to support the aviation sector, but in a way which is distinct from the rest of the G7. No capital assistance to a distressed sector which is an important component of the nat...
