For Sale: Garmin 696 with XM antenna
I have a Garmin 696, with XM antenna, for sale. I am the second owner, and have never used the device. I purchased it from another pilot who took excellent care of it. It needs a new battery, and map updates. In addition, the person I purchased it from did not give me the RAM mounting screws for the...

Re: Training in the Red Bird Sim - PPL
I am not a fan of the Red Bird sim. Seems to be an extremely over-hyped desktop sim with limited motion. Why not get a copy of MS Flight Sim, add on some very detailed scenery, and three cheap flat panel monitors and have the same thing at home (minus the motion)? You can still practice any sort of ...

Re: 172 brake caliper play
I have always taken time in my career for pilots who take an interest in learning about their aircraft, but you're always going to be better off asking in person, with the aircraft there. I assume you rent from a school or club? They most likely have an AME on staff, please ask him or her if they h...

Re: 172 brake caliper play
You're having your maintenance done on a public forum? Please nobody answer this question, thats what manuals are for. Send me your log book and I'll sign out your annual. I'm not having my or any maintenance done on a public forum. I dont own an airplane or even know anyone that does. I'm trying t...

172 brake caliper play
How much play is normal for a 172sp brake caliper?
Should it be tight, and wiggle 1 or 2mm, or is it ok to easily much more than that?
Thank you.

Sorry, I should have stated VFR.Colonel Sanders wrote:uh, that's because ATC wants it that way when you're IFR. Without a second radio, you're hosed as far as getting onto UNICOM any reasonable distance out.some pilots dont switch to a ATF while close to an uncontrolled airport

Re: Mid-Air Collision
-Turn on the transponder in uncontrolled airpace -Consider a PCAS device, like the xrx or mrx from Zaon -Consider making a radio call on 126.7 before switching to a MF or ATF and mention you are switching over. Monitor 126.7 on a second radio. Read an article the other day that made a good point tha...

Re: AC Starting Salary
I am just worried that it won't be what I expected...so I am making sure I know what I'm getting into before I do it. I guess I just have to quiet down the "voice of reason" and follow my heart... easier said then done! You are young enough, with a specific education, that if flying is not what you...

Re: INSTRUCTORS AND SPINS
As I am not familiar with flight training standards in Canada anymore, I had to do a bit of research on TCs website. If I read it correctly, it is not recovering from a spin, but from an incipient spin. (CPL..ex 13) At 1/4 to 1/2 turn in most trainers this would be called an aggrevated stall or a s...

PPC expiry question
This is a sample test question I have, and i'm not sure of the answer. If your PPC has been expired for anywhere between 6-24 months, what is needed to regain it? 1. Briefing on changes to the airplane/operations since your last flight 2. 3 t/o and landings 3. Recurrent PPC training 4. All of the ab...

Re: INSTRUCTORS AND SPINS
Are full spins supposed to be a lesson for the CPL now that the flight exam only requires a 1/4 to 1/2 turn before recovery? Can someone comment on whether that is purely incipient or not?

Re: Looking for input from University Aviation grads
Have you considered suggesting a non aviation degree, so he has something more concrete to fall back on? Business degree in economics, finance or accounting. Then he can always do a CA or CFA designation and there are solid careers in these fields. Or engineering, which is recruited by obviously eng...

Rudy,
What are you interested in doing everyday? Lots of well paying jobs out there, but do what you enjoy.

Prior career before flying?
I was curious how many of you had a unrelated career prior to flying? I realize most on the forum might have started in this field, right from a young age, but has anyone made a major change? and why? Or do you fly with anyone that has? No real reason why i'm asking other than i have friends changin...

Re: Georgian Sim Eval
The main feedback that I got was that it said to reset the gen switches and they were on the Captains side (I was the PF at the time in the left seat) and the PNF couldn't find the switch. So the CP told him where to find it and then I started looking for it on my side too. So then after the CP sai...

Re: MRC got a Tecnam Twin
Why are they a POS? I dont think people should give MRC a hard time for new equipment. I keep seeing numerous threads here with people complaining about the crap they have to fly. I'm starting to learn that most people on these boards will never be satisfied. I'd love to see newer equipment in the f...

Sounds like the ultimate combination is a ramp/office job with good 703/704 company - along with instructing on the weekends.

For Sale: New Garmin Aera 500
I have a new Garmin Aera 500 for sale. I bought it off ebay, from a person who won it in a contest. He opened the box, looks like he took the actual gps out of the package, but never used the items. It still has the free map update certificate in the box, and most accessories are wrapped in their or...
