Re: Plane Share Dispute

One way to resolve this is called a shotgun clause which it sounds like you don't have but perhaps you could get it worked out. Basically, you say you don't want to be partners anymore and all interested parties submit a sealed bid for the plane shares. You don't want to lowball in this case because...

Re: Some questions about float ratings

One thing I guess I'd ask about the 50 hour bush course is, who's instructing it? As in does the instructor have any serious amount of bush flying experience that qualifies them to be teaching this course? Some will, like a semi-retired long time bush pilot who's doing some instructing , others may ...

Re: Frequency Saturation in Glen Valley/Pitt Meadows PAs again today!

It was the first sunny day in a while, in a winter that's been absolutely brutal for flying. Everything was a gong show, from apron, to fuel pumps to practice areas. Imagine that. Shocking anyone else wanted to fly that day. That was my point, yes. Obviously there will be a lot of people wanting to...

Re: Frequency Saturation in Glen Valley/Pitt Meadows PAs again today!

It was the first sunny day in a while, in a winter that's been absolutely brutal for flying. Everything was a gong show, from apron, to fuel pumps to practice areas. There's just a lot of planes and training taking place in what is, for training purposes, a walled in area. This doesn't help you any,...

Re: Missing aircraft near Langley BC

My farm is right at that powerline crossing. The wires get hit every few years. The warning system has been inoperational for some time, the tower lights got shot out on New Years Eve several years ago. They've just now activated some good lighting on the towers again. That crash was very weird. To ...

Re: PK 3000 vs EDO 2870/2960 on C-180

I fly a 59 180B on floats and I've had it equipped with both the 2960s and the CAP 3000s. I have no experience with the PKs so I can't help you there. The EDOs are a good float but their main drawback is the long tails, you can't really rotate to get off the water, you have to wait to fly off and wh...

Re: Float Rating suggestions

Float rating in Canada in the winter basically means west coast I'd think. Fort Langley Air is great and lots of neat stuff going on there right now with a couple Beavers you can do dual training on besides the usual Cessna 180. Island Coastal at Pitt is supposed to be great, I have no experience wi...

Re: PPL training on floats?

I think the only issue is either finding a flight school that has a float plane and will do your PPL on it (we have one in Pitt Meadows) or finding an insurance company that will cover your own plane while you train on it (if you want hull insurance).

Re: Landing floatplane on the Lower Stikine

I don't know much about the lower Stikine, I think I was somewhere between Glendora and the Chutine. My biggest worry would be hitting a sandbar or not being able to figure out the main channel. What kind of floatplane are you using? AP In your time up there did you ever land on Newmont lake? Can't...

Re: Landing floatplane on the Lower Stikine

Thank-you very much for this great information. I might not even have thought about leaving the water rudders down, it's gotten so ingrained in my routine to raise them, 20 miles down from Glenora, would that be at the Chutine River then? I'm looking a little lower than that even, down around the ....

Re: Landing floatplane on the Lower Stikine

I made the mistake of landing in the lower Stikine near the Iskut and soon found myself heading tail first downstream at a frightening rate. It didn't look that fast from the air but there was no way I would have been able to get to shore. The other hazard I found when trying to depart was that the...

Re: Landing floatplane on the Lower Stikine

I'm flying a 59 C180B on EDO 2960's.
I talked to the local air charter up there and he's apparently landing on the river right at the Canada/US border to take out canoeists.
I've got alternate ideas if the river looks like it'll be too much. I'm not gonna be a hero.

Landing floatplane on the Lower Stikine

I'm thinking of poking around the Lower Stikine a bit. Never been in that area before and I'm wondering if anyone operates with floats on the river. Can't find much about it one way or the other but sounds like the water is moving pretty fast. Does anyone here have experience?

Re: Looking for an experienced tail wheel instructor.

Obviously hours aren't everything but how much "time" or other experience on tailwheel airplanes do you think an instructor should get before accepting students on one? By the way, are there any pilot examiners who'd be prepared to administer the flight test in one? You'd have to check with him but...

Re: Float / Bush flying training in BC

I have no experience with the CPL but I can say that John Crawford at Fort Langley is top notch, they do a bush flying course but I don't know about CPL stuff. I fly out of Pitt and have met Tom Dryborough from Island Coastal several times, super guy and always helpful even though I'm not and never ...

Re: PPL Written Exam Prep

Usually ground school is part of studying, alternately one of the online ground schools would work. Actually you need a letter from an approved school stating you have taken ground school to get entrance to the exam. The practice exams that Harvs provides are quite similar to the TC written exam.
