Re: ForeFlight GPS

With iOS 8.3 or 8.4 the iPad GPS stays on in airplane mode.

Apple Watch

Anyone using the Apple Watch yet?
How do you like it?

I've had mine for a few weeks now. Lots to learn.
One word of caution. If you launch an App on the Watch it will be running on your phone in the background and you will not have any indication of it running.

Re: Apple iOS 8.3 - Don't install.

I guess 8.3 also does NOT turn off the iPhone 6 GPS when you select airplane mode. This is new. In the past airplane mode always turned off the iPhone GPS receiver. Anyone else notice this?

Apple iOS 8.3 - Don't install.

Looks like 8.3 has broken a lot of stuff.
The Garmin and Bad Elf GPS are having issues.
I also can't use Apple's Numbers App for my logbook spreadsheet anymore :(

Re: iPad app

I agree with FenderManDan. The Bluetooth connectivity can be problematic. The accuracy seems to be about the same between external and internal GPS. But I like the external receivers as I can move the iPad around without losing sight of the satellites. The latest iPad Air 2 has the new M8 chip so it...

iPhone 6

The new iPhones have a pressure sensor in them so I've written a simple altimeter app that will show you altitude.

Re: Most Important Weather Factors

Can't find Met Mapper on the iTunes store any more. Colby doesn't reply to any emails. Any idea what happened?

Never mind. Just found Colby's new Apps. Met Mapper has been retired.

Re: Thunderstorms found to emit significant doses of radiati

Dwyer published this back in 2010: In a recent study,* scientists estimated that airline passengers could be exposed to 400 chest X-rays worth of radiation by being near the origin of a single millisecond blast. Joe Dwyer of the Florida Institute of Technology took part in that research, which used ...

Re: iPad app

I'm not sure I understand you comment about "almost exclusively with Foreflight". The Bad Elf Pro will work with any iOS program that uses the core location framework.

I find the Bad Efl Pro a "slippery sucker"! Have you found a good way to prevent it from sliding around the cockpit yet?

Re: iPad app

I believe that the cel versions of the new iPads are the only ones that have true GPS receivers in them. The WIFI only models don't have GPS. I've tried the iPhone 5 and iPad mini in flight and they both have amazing GPS receivers. You can boot them up after traveling hundreds of miles and they can ...

Re: iPad app

Cool. AeroWeather Pro also has webcams. If you don't see the one you want for your airport you can add it at Webcams.travel and it will show up in AeroWeather.

Re: iPad app

Sorry I'm not "in the know". Just did a quick check on the iTunes store but couldn't find anything for the iPad that you could customize. There are lots of aircraft specific checklists but I don't know if you can customize them at all. ForeFlight Checklist Pro looks like it might work but it is not ...

Re: Aviation Apps for Android Tablet

I write aviation apps for both platforms. http://www.skywritersoft.com I still prefer the iPad over the Android tablet. The iPad is built very well and the user experience is very consistant with any app you might buy. With Android you never know what the progam will look like (layout) on your devic...

AeroWeather Pro is great. Pascal has done a great job writing it and support is excellent.
FlyBy E6B and FlyBy Nav are "Made in Canada" apps.
I can't tell you how good they are as I wrote them....

Lobo Labs also reviewed his own app and gave it five stars saying "Works great!". Tsk, tsk. :smt018 Impressive amount of five star reviews in the first two days. I didn't think so many pilots would find a new brand new app, have a chance to test it on a cross border flight and write a review so qui...
