Re: Air Canada Pool

A slight correction to your informative post TheStig; note that on the latest equipment bid release a couple weeks ago, junior EMJ Captain is now at exactly seniority 3354 (not 3100 as stated). If I'm not mistaken seniority 3354 is most likely year 1 at the moment... But of course, as time passed, t...

Re: Air Canada Pool

That's a hell of a post FPOKA - very candid and thoughtful.

Your logic and priorities make perfect sense to me. With this in mind, I believe moving to AC would indeed be a logical decision.

I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do,
Respectfully,

Re: What age is too old to go to AC and collect a full pension?

RRSP's do not equal DC. Very similar though. Like you said Franky, they are Very similar. And for the sake of discussion on this forum, I stated the DC = RRSP because the differences are not as notable as comparing DB vs. DC. And unless you are studying for bachelors in finance exam, it's safe to c...

Re: What age is too old to go to AC and collect a full pension?

Dockjock, With all due respect to your detailed explanation of Air Canada's DC plan (or any other DC plan in Canada). It is completely inaccurate on all accounts. ACs DC plan (like any other DC plan in Canada) is pretty much exactly like an RRSP and is limited and bounded by the exact same rules and...

Re: Jazz hiring in 2017

I'm crossing my fingers for a CPA revision and CS100's. But I think that's a bit pie in the sky. Could we see AC start to focus more on International routes over the next years and Jazz becoming the "domestic" Air Canada? Although this is probably what air canada management would like (it would sav...

How do "bonuses" work? I realize I used the improper term.. My apologies. I meant to say profit sharing. Profit sharing is not a guaranteed. But if the company meets certain financial benchmarks (EBITDAR), this triggers profit sharing amongst various groups of employees, including pilots. Without g...

only if the starting pay was reasonable it would be a no brainer Made over 70k in year one a few years ago. This includes bonuses, training, perdiems and a bit of over time.... I know a few others made close to 90k with a bunch of overtime... All year 1/2. Reasonable? I think so. Especially knowing...

generally count on YYZ for starters, then other bases as they open up for junior positions only, and only if the type you're trained on is based elsewhere . Duke. Actually, this specific statement is not quite accurate Duke. A new hire is actually allowed to bid a different equipment during his 4 y...

You make a good point Bruced007. But when faced with such a wide array of qualified applicants with plenty of flight experience from Express carriers, competitors such as transat, sunwing, etc. as well as various tier 2 and 3 carriers, a university degree is a great and easy way to narrow your searc...

I wonder why these jet jockey apply to Air Canada when they could go to Asia and make $10-30k/month USD and way lower income tax? Really..? 15000 hours, 2 degrees? And you've opted to head over to ac to make 54, 57,59 and 61k in the next 4 years???! Just not to misinform those reading your post: 1. Your numbers a wrong. New hires now can expect an hourly wage of about 57, 63, 74 and 84$/hr once cost of living increase is factored in. N...

You don't have to be a senior FO to make that. Year 4/5 320 FO over 100k... Senior 320 probably makes close to 140k on the 320. All this working 16 days or less. What's "good" about SR is not the wages, it's the fact you can get left seat on a Q400 with about 3000 hours and even left seat emj with b...

I don't think you will see very many military pilots applying to AC Pilots coming from military are indeed still applying and getting hired at AC. I have seen many hired since the DC pension has been in place, so your assumption is wrong. They already have a well deserved DB pension from their mili...

Re: Air Canada Pool

General FYI about hiring, 3 ground schools have been conducted so far in 2016 with 20 pilots each. 80% Jazz PML ratio seems to be respected and the remaining 20% filled by OTS (pool!?) and express pilots. If I had to venture a guess, looks like 1 or 2 ground schools per month for the next few months...

The bid has been open for a couple days now and the final positions assignments should be published in mid-February. Re: 2016 Course Dates and Positions

The last union release suggested about 111 PFOs so far. Thats about 30% of the interviewees. They are obligated to take 495 out of 715, which means they can PFO about 30% which is what they seem to be doing. Off The Street PFO rates were well above 50% when I was hired a few years ago which I alway...

All comes down to a HR person who likely doesn't know anything about flying putting a check mark or an X beside your name. Hello inverted2, When I was interviewed at Air Canada, the only two people in the room were two active Air Canada pilots. I must say they were both highly qualified to render j...

Air Canada states that they require post-secondary education. I'm not saying going to school is a bad idea, quite the contrary! With the -900 at certain landing weights there's a minimum turn-around time that has to be adhered to. Can be up to an hourish if I remember. Allow the brakes to cool. Not sure if you can get brake fans to help on that 37. The A321 has brake fans I'm pretty sure. So the -900 may hoop up your schedu...
