Re: CBC News story / no-fly ban

There is no way to know if she is in on the scam. Terrible reporting as usual. Hard to get sentimental about hearing Con plans to cut off the CBC news. These losers will continue their ways but I don't want to pay for it anymore.

co-joe wrote: Mon May 13, 2019 7:21 pm Why is it a "friendly deal"? Just asking...
Because WJA's board (which represents the share holders) recommends its acceptance. In the AC case it was hostile because AC went to great lengths to block it.

Re: WestJet to be Acquired by Onex

Would be interesting to know how many shares Onex already owns. The numbers being thrown around are fairly crude but if Onex had been quietly accumulating in the 18's and 19's the media "value" of the deal goes down significantly. If people recall back to the AC/CAIL days of ONEX, Schwartz had the e...

Re: Disability Benefits For Pilots Over Age 60

It's called a cycle people. Just like some of the 65 year olds retiring now with 46 years of service. Being hired at 19 isn't happening...even in this new golden age of aviation where new hires still can't afford to live in the main crew bases. Whatever, fly till ya die and don't forget to wear your...

I have flown with people who have expressed an interest in going to Swoop internally. They all have a few things in common. They all came from Encore. The only thing they see are 4 bars in their eyes and nothing else matters. They are really bad at math. just left seats and money. I'm going to brea...

Re: WestJet Link is delaying launch date

The way I see it, both parties are fighting for their jobs. Gregg et al have started down a road of labor unrest. If negative PR and stock performance come next because they chose to try and bust a fledging union under dubious legal grounds, they're dust. I wouldn't be in a rush to help this guy sav...

Re: Thoughts on ACPA Joining ALPA...

Agree with that sentiment Stig. I think the membership is just getting duped by all this navel gazing. The rot isn't going to give in easy. The sooner we shutter ACPA, the better. The union has been a disaster since TA1 was hatched.

Re: A Thankyou to ACPA re: swoop ban.

0.80... ACPA is correct, in that AC management can, and will, hire whomever they want. But in this case, not hiring from SWOOP may just work for them. A month ago there were 338 pilot applications at AC from current WJ pilots. If AC were to hire from WJ instead of SWOOP, it would achieve a number o...

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.

At the end of the day, why should a pilot offer to work for less at the same company in the face of an unbelievable profit streak and record load factors? These two facts make all other "justifications" total BS. There is no need to over analyze this. Dig in, defend your work and remember, you didn'...

Agreed with The Stig. Been down this road on the Red side. Stick together...never fracture. If GS wants to jeopardize a great operation that rewards shareholders well for the sake of a dubious business plan, his job is more at risk than yours. You guys are longer term stakeholders than he is. Best o...

Re: Cancellation Reasons

When wx events occur (be they forecast or already happened) they can cause a/c, crews and ATC slots to be in short supply. It may be CAVU the moment you got the cxl notice but the root cause could still be weather related. It can take days to normalize and operation. For example, if ceiling in LGA i...

Re: WestJet introduces WestJet Link

The Pasco deal seems like a smart one. Scope aside, it serves a segment of the market suited for a smaller a/c. Swoop is the weird one. It would not surprise me if it was purely a hypothetical tool to help with ALPA integration and scope language. Let's face it, if ACr and WJA wanted to quickly disp...

I wish my professional colleagues at WJA well. Please learn from the mistakes that us red guys made and don't let it happen to you. From a distance it's easy to see that corporate culture of old is no longer a concern in comparison to the cult of corporate cash.

Full disclosure, I'm not specifically in-the-know but I doubt that the blood work screens for prescription meds. Many such meds have multiple uses anyway. I would bet it's just a test for illicit drugs. I wouldn't worry about it if you're otherwise qualified which, you must be since they devoted a m...

I don't think schadenfreude is accurate. I want to see everyone in our profession do well. A flooding tide rises all b...

Re: How is new hire equipment chosen?

Jack, when I was hired class seniority was determined picking numbers out of a hat. Then, when the day arrived with what seats/bases were available, we wrote down a wish-list and it was generally handed out in seniority... but not always. In my case, I was handed the only position I did not ask for ...

Re: 737 MAX 8 Delivery and "Celebration Hangar Event"

AC could still cancel options and decline purchase rights to achieve some political and patriotic support. It might even fall into the business plan. I agree with alti, we are in way too deep to cancel and swap now. Too bad the Neo outclasses the Max by a mile.

Re: New TA?

You can cash out the MEPP via a "transfer value" or defer the annuity to age 60 with no penalties. Regulations could change for the MEPP, who knows as more employers grab onto the idea as it gets lots of income tax relief. Even if this were to happen, AC would still be on the hook for contributions...

Re: Westjet. The new PML to Air Canada!

It would make sense given the experience on the 737. The Max transition course should be easy for any WJ pilot. Continually robbing your own cpa carriers to the detriment of sustainable feed has its limits as well. Can't comment on the numbers above though. I agree the attrition and growth planned w...
