Re: Advices on training plan, should I get more than a CPL ?

I've been on the hiring end of things for a while and I would agree that, if you're going for a float job, the more float hours the better. The bush environment can be vey challenging. The operators know that and are much more inclined to hire someone with more than a bare minimum float endorsement....

Re: Blue Water Aviation plane down North of Winnipeg

Hey PilotDAR I did mention it was third hand Perhaps I should also have mentioned it was verbal I suspect that it is not official yet but very likely to happen. I don’t think they’re grounded, but there’s a Safety Bulliten to inspect the struts/fittings/bolts, etc before its next flight. That is bes...

Re: Blue Water Aviation plane down North of Winnipeg

Admittedly I got it third hand but from a fairly reliable non gov. source.
A reasonable expectation of gov. response given circumstances.
I wonder if the USA operators will be told to follow suit?

Re: Blue Water Aviation plane down North of Winnipeg

Evidently all Otters in Canada have been grounded pending the results of the accident investigation.
That's gonna hurt the west coast operators hard.
I hope they find the cause of the wing failure very soon. Before anything else catastrophic happens.

Re: Turbine Otter with 8000A Whips External Load

I used to fly that type of plane and the MB govt did go through all the hoops necessary to allow extermal loads on the aircraft but I don't know if it allowed external loads on both sides of the aircraft.

Funniest thread on a serious subject I have read in a very long time!
ROFL

Be careful with anything with ammonia in it. It attacks the plastic of your windows and makes your plane smell like pee.

Re: Bombardier considers move away from Downsview

Maybe not in Gimli and the interlake but Winnipeg is not far away and I think has a significant number of people in the aerospace industry. Also maybe some present employees could be persuaded to move west. But like someone said in an earlier post, any move will be east. Manitoba, on the fringe of t...

Re: Bombardier considers move away from Downsview

So, just to throw this in as a wild card suggestion that won't happen because it is west of Toronto, but how about YGM, Gimli in Manitoba? Big concrete runway, lots of space, cheap housing nearby, ramp big enough any plane they make...

Re: Companies not paying Stat Holiday Pay

I was in a bit of a similar situation. Got called the evening before the federal holiday and told I wasn't flying the next day, therefore no pay. I waited to see if the stat was on my paycheck. Nope. I am getting my facts together to see what I am owed but I think they average your daily mileage for...

Re: Companies not paying Stat Holiday Pay

I'm going to do a resurrection on this thread. Here's aquestion for you people. I get paid straight mileage, no reserve, no base salary. This is to my way of thinking the same as an incentive based system such as a salesman's commissions,a category which is covered under labour legislation. So, if I...

Boeing uninterruptible autopilot

Yeah I know it was brought up in threads in 2007, but recent crashes in the Indian ocean and Ukraine makes people think... Fielding McConnell started the whole exposure of this in 2006 I believe and a friend of mine brought it to my attention. Interesting concept but is it true? I have never heard i...

Re: Water Rudders

I fly on the 8000's which have water rudders that don't retract up very far by design. Backing into a beach you have to be very careful to straighten them before impact with the sand. Otherwise the AME's get really annoyed at you for bending "their" plane.

Re: Pilot should get tips ?

Tipping in the bush pilot world seems to be a hit and miss thing. Ontario bush pilots seem to get a lot more tips than Manitoba pilots for example.

I have heard that putting a sign up inside the plane that says "tipping your pilot will help him remember where he left you" increases tips...
