3. Hammer must wear orange safety vest
4. Hammer must have 4 strobe lights for day and 6 for night
5. AME must have a minimum of 200 hours ball peen type before solo hammering. Apprentices are credited half the time up to 100 hours.

Re: MIFR training - sim vs actual flight time

You should be getting in that plane and filing IFR for every trip. A typical FTU simulator cannot replace the sensations experienced in actual IMC flight. To say something about your comment on en route flying, there is no one phase of flight that is any less important, especially in IFR. Once you f...

Re: Random Drug and Alcohol Testing

Alcohol and drugs are not the killers in this industry. Fatigue is. Let's have random tests for that.
Hell, let's have a war on fatigue. The fatigue "dealers" should do hard time for pushing their tiring product on aviation addicts.

Re: 4 fatal - crash nw of Waterloo ON Aug 24 2012

All this talk about flat spins, inverted spins... The point is that the pilot stalled the plane. Only the pilot could have made this happen. It was not a training flight so there was no legitimate reason for the pilot to produce a stall. And there was no legitimate reason not to recover at the first...

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

I believe insurance comes into play here, don't want to let a student loose an aircraft solo seeing marginal VFR for the first time. Or an instructor... They provide FMS, SMS, CRM, SOP training and more. What are the merits of this training if even the instructor cannot keep the greasy side down? T...

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

how they can rectify the issues perhaps. Produce pilots and develop instructors that can: -Handle more than 5kt crosswinds. -Land a plane-Commercial pilots that can't land a plane become instructors that can't land a plane. -Handle low visibility/ceiling conditions. This means using instructors wit...

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

I don't know where they're getting their instructors, but it's time to shop elsewhere. Time to start paying for experience. Seneca is another one of those FTUs that attempt to teach with handouts and extensive SOPs rather than using good experienced instruction and guidance. Every now and then this...

Re: Seneca College Crashes again, minor injuries.

What is happening over there?
Too many SOPs, not enough focus on actually flying an airplane.

Re: Flight Instructor Ride coming up. any suggestions/tips?

I wish instructor students would look at this differently. It shouldn't be about which exercise they're going to give you on the flight test, it should be about being competent to teach EVERYTHING.

Re: Hiring Instructors

Congrats on the new job. Free advice: Just a little more... 1) Make sure your students are actually learning. Hopefully you've brushed up on your techniques to ensure progress. The thing that most instructors (even Class 1s and 2s) forget is that it's all about your student and not about you. What C...

Re: Discouraged "new" flight instructors

Lacking some context, I'll chime in. Your Class 1 should not be making you feel unnecessarily discouraged... buuuuuut you DO have to know this stuff! It could be that your Class 1 is just being a jerk... the way to overcome is to stop using their services long before you get in too deep. No Class 4 ...

Re: Seneca College Bonanza Report Released

Interesting. The college performed the typical FTU kneejerk reaction. They made a huge list of useless rules that don't address the real problems. These things stand out like a sore thumb but were not addressed by the college: -Instructors with no IMC experience have no business teaching IFR, period...

Re: Pilot pay

mass pilots union I wish we could do that. We pilots seem to complain about our conditions alot, but when it comes down to it, there's no real solidarity. As long as pilots think it's OK to take the Kraft Dinner job because it pads the logbook, we're not going to stand together. Most pilots I come ...

Re: Does KD Air stand for Kraft Dinner?

If we want to talk comprehension, let's do it globally. Many pilots comprehend that taking a $2000/mo job is a slap in the face to your fellow pilots. Training wage or no, you can't live on it, so how do you survive? if you don't agree with how I and many others before me have justified working at K...

Re: Does KD Air stand for Kraft Dinner?

I also own a house in Victoria which I pay the mortgage for. Does that mean I'm an adult? You're paying mortgage AND another rent on $2000? Lol. What's the point? Do you eat? Our AME gets paid very well . He is the best I've ever seen and I've seen plenty. Like I said, one of the perks is flying so...
