Re: Flight planning...

My company uses Colt but I use fltplan.com with my own profiles that I created from the AFM.

Re: Gyroplanes

I've been seeing a lot of them flying throughout my travels in the US recently. It always seems like the people in them are having a blast when we taxi by each other. I'd love to go up for a famil flight in one.

Re: Do you really trust that wet runway performance data

CRFI or TALPA, the bottom line is that your landing distance on a contaminated runway will likely be flight tested. Not always. For the LJ45XR, which is a Part 25 certified aircraft. This is also the only data we have available for landing on a wet runway: Title Page: Contaminated Runway Data The p...

Re: Handling of power on take off and landing.

I've only flown small singles, but I always have one hand on the throttle for the first 500 feet and last 500 feet. When I fly gliders, one hand is on the release instead of the throttle. I haven't flown a glider in a long time, so maybe the techniques have changed. But for the many years that I fl...

Re: COPA Membership

Thank you all for the input. I've been talking with a friend that wants to go in on an airplane, so maybe the classifieds would be useful (even if the online version apparently sucks).

No one has commented on the magazine though, so I'll ask again. Are the articles still good?

COPA Membership

Hi all, I had a COPA membership when I was back in college and cancelled it after I graduated to save some money many years ago. Now that I've got some disposable income and am looking at re-subscribing to some magazines and re-joining some organisations (e.g., COPA, OFAH, etc.). I was wondering if ...

Re: Bose Proflight

I ended up getting the DC Pro-X, I tried that out in the Lear 45 on the way down to Florida yesterday and at least for me, I think was the better purchase. I think I'm sold on getting the Pro-X, but I've yet to try it on. I keep bouncing back and forth from Clarity Aloft vs Pro-X. Does the Pro-X mo...

Re: Bose Proflight

I tried it on the other day in AvWorld before they went on sale earlier on in the week. It's a very different feeling headset (not uncomfortable, just feels different compared to a traditional headset). As you can probably see in the photos on their website, the frame that goes across the top of you...

Re: Ban of Handheld Lasers within 10k of airports

It was reported to FSS in the air, and they forwarded it to local police. Zero outcome. The police didn't seem interested despite the fact I could identify exactly what building it came from with video. That's very interesting and disheartening to hear. When and where was this? I had one about two ...

Re: Flight Safety

It depends on the manufacturer. For example, if you've been typed on a Cessna product, you'll have access to all the training manuals/flashcards for that type on Flightbag forever. However, if you're on a Bombardier product, you will have access to them starting about a month before training starts ...

First 1000, in a CE206 flying survey over Grand Rapids, MI (KGRR).
Second 1000, in a CE650 somewhere over the Atlantic flying back to Toronto (CYYZ) from North Eleuthra (MYEH).

Re: Flying to the US without transponder

I remember trying to do this a few years ago for bringing a plane back from the US. We had to call up each TRACON and tower for the airspace that we planned on transiting through up until we got back in Canadian airspace. They allowed us to do it, they just needed to know times and routing and for u...

Sprayed with urine? This makes me think that either they were 1. Wearing a skirt, 2. Their pants were off (which is a whole other issue that deserves it's own thread) or 3. Someone has a urethra the size of a fire hose and they should get that checked out.

Re: Multi Training - Shutting Down An Engine

I'm kind of surprised a plastic airplane couldn't be restarted in flight. Maybe I'm just falsely assuming that plastic means new-ish which means everything works. Is there some sort of FADEC voodoo that would prevent a restart? LnS. +1 If they couldn't get the engine restarted, then there's an issu...

Re: Multi Training - Shutting Down An Engine

Purposely coming in on one engine is a stupid idea, for several obvious reasons.

However, doing an in-flight shutdown (and restarting it before starting an approach) is good experience. Also, if I recall correctly, it is required for the multi-engine rating.

Re: Ornge Sikorsky Air ambulance accident Northern Ontario

Bottom line? It's a piece of paper. You have an ATPL, flying right seat in a Navajo.......you're still flying right seat in a Navajo. Now what? The "paper" won't change a thing. It's a joke, really. Isn't it? You'll still be "that guy" I see taxiing out on gravel without first making your calls, so...

Yes you can. If you have a GPS or DME on board, you're all set.
