MH370 wing?
:!: Still had bouyancy to be up enough off the ocean floor to get in the net. No, it was on the sea floor. Getting hung up on the sea floor there made sense, because if it is a wayward wing (as it had dawned on the finder in Robe) it could have been tilting with bottom contact, angle(ing) over towar...

Re: MH370 found 10 years ago
25ton up-thrust, the bouyancy capability of this type wing bone dry inside at 25lbs of lift per each of 2000 cubic feet airspace (10k-USgal) — when dragged under water —-would be tearing at the weakened wing base at varying angles early in sinking. This up force applied in different directions (ie f...

Re: MH370 found 10 years ago
If something is dense enough to go under the surface, it will continue to sink. In fact for a hollow object the rate of sinking will increase as the water pressure compresses the volume and the object displaces less water vs its weight. In essence it will become less buoyant the deeper it goes. The...

Re: MH370 found 10 years ago
Important discovery: The Indian ocean countercurrent south of the equator (a relatively recent discovery) would have dragged on everything hanging from the wing well below he surface taking it eastward despite wind and waves trying to float it in the opposite direction toward Africa like all the oth...

Re: AC Rouge 1693
a bounce and up again of that magnitude If this touchdown also coincided with some extra thrust kicking in (like if some power was added to reduce a sink rate around flare) just as it bounces (still at flare AOA) … helps to “bounce” higher, but also ok position to flare again …lots of rwy left. Was...

Re: AC Rouge 1693
An undercarriage absorbs unbelievable amount of weight during a bounce like that which reaches peak as a negative vertical velocity hits zero on an impact such as is described . The lift to weight ratio then skyrockets (it’s all lift no weight for that second) at contact & even more lift is added to...

Re: Air France tailstrike
Ok, there is no more CYKZ, so the nearest airport-grade metar data (at least ten meters up) E of YYZ is Trenton Ontario. Archived GFA 211800-0000Z maps are enough to identify directions of circulation drawn in by trough.

Re: Air France tailstrike
Ok … drawing an arrow from the middle of l.Ontario towards the nearest lowest pressure you can see on the map .. That means the air from over the east of the lake also heads in that direction .. held warm by the water it moves that way because all around the lake cold air flows downhill onto it (flo...

Re: Air France tailstrike
airbus uses a "Ground Speed Mini" function. https://www.smartcockpit.com/docs/A320-Ground_Speed_Mini_Function.pdf Since this took place after landing the wind does not appear to be a factor in the tailstrike. If the mini function had 8kts tailwind example for 2, instead of the 50kts hdwnd, and “tow...

Re: Air France tailstrike
My first thought is loss of lift due to airspeed(or decrease in wind), the reaction to the sudden drop was pull back while very likely calling for a go around. A “decrease” seems already happens gradually here ( warm air aloft drawing from southeast … toward North ) experienced after right turn tow...

Re: Air France tailstrike
I noticed the ATC question about it, so it just seemed to me they were curious what that was from the pilot’s perspective….even though it might seem so very obvious to an onlooker.

Re: Air France tailstrike
Air France and 24L don’t mix. The O5 accident on this same rwy came through a shot of 30-40 tailwind component not too far from the threshold, with the severe wind shifts around some unusually heavy thunderstorm activity encountered at a time when a number of other flights were diverted to alternat...

Re: Air France tailstrike
I was a passenger on the flight. The flare was quite exaggerated and I knew just before the impact that it wasn't ops normal. But the strike felt more like hard landing rather than a tail impact. The captain made a PA saying they went around because of the runway being occupied. “Used up...

Re: Jet stream down
The “wet snow flakes” impacting rwy surface “ at -15” C are solid on contact and even a thin coat stiffer snow is affecting ground acceleration / IAS. After “longer” liftoff would be forced to shallow climb in northwest direction when “inversion” air above is from S/SE direction. (Referencing from g...

Re: 152 Crash CEJ4 - August 29th
Speaking of “checking airspeed” … it’s also about navigating from the right seat here; that is another thing that comes to mind when having noticed an airspeed bleed …. it’s about catching it immediately which is enhanced (noticability) by its location top left corner immediately in front of you the...

Re: 152 Crash CEJ4 - August 29th
The lack of (high density alt) leaning factor (1) makes sense as contributor to diminishing of the power curve and by associated plug fouling tendencies that arise with the resulting rich mixtures (excessive). Mixture here found to be at full rich during departure above 5000o DA. … That could be dis...
