Re: Effects of carrying weight in float compartment?
I agree, you are overthinking it. When you put weight into the aircraft, the floats will displace water and it will sit lower. It doesn’t matter where the weight is located, 200lbs is 200lbs. The more of the float that is in the water, the longer it will take to get up on step. You will find that lo...

Re: Northern Wilderness Otter in Dryden.
This thread turned into a total train wreck. A lot of opinions from folks who have never spent a moment in or around an Otter, that much is clear. You get to a good solid dock, tie it down and wait it out. That's all anyone could really do in this sort of situation. What the winds and gusts do is ou...

Re: Go Pro Hero 3 Mounting?
I wouldn't trust the suction cup mount on the float, the sticky mounts are the way to go. They can be reused as well, just go buy yourself a roll of the 3M tape at an automotive/paint store. The only problem we have run into with the Hero 3 up in the cold is battery life. At -30 you will only get 15...

Re: Minnow Pilots
Better get used to it, I have American tourists ask me if I an old enough to fly on at least a weekly basis. I'm almost 34!!! Now I just look at it as a compliment.

Re: Radio & GPS for a J3
I have a Garmin 76, good bang for your buck. Mounted on the top of the panel, it's a flip down mount so you can get it out of your way if needed. It does everything I need and more.

Re: Frequency changes in Northwest Ontario
I have to agree with CL on this one too. This whole frequency thing around the Nakina area has been a huge frustration for me in the last year or so. I have been here for nearly seven years and up until last winter everyone has been on 22.8. With the busy float and IFR traffic in our area, we really...

Re: That Beaver/C-185 job
YK is a small town, if someone was flying a new machine everyone would be gossiping about it and so far I haven't heard anything. I didn't see Yellowknife mentioned anywhere in the add. Jumping to some pretty wild conclusions there aren't we. It's truly a rarity to find anything positive or useful ...

As far as I know, there is no place to fuel in Longlac. Be sure to call ahead to any other spots you may have in mind. Should be a great trip, hope the weather improves!!

Looking for a set for sale, anyone? Seems like they are hard to come by. Either the Edo's or maybe a set of Baumann 1500's.

Switch to a floater in NWO
I am a 1700TT, 800PIC pilot wanting to make the switch to floats. My experience is all gravel/northern time, Pilatus and Caravan. I am not above working on the dock to get my hands on a 180/185 for the summer. Anyone know of any NWO operators that might give someone like me a chance?

I would have to agree with Neil. Why are we all caught up in the alure of the big iron?? I for one could care less. I am much happier flying a small gig, and sleeping in my own bed EVERY night. Spend my days off riding my sled and ice fishing. The whole airline life isn't for everyone. Make chump ch...
