EI does not pay 41,000. It pays a maximum of 55% of this before tax. As mentioned previously, not much.

Re: Sunwing expands like a mofo!
To All I am not employed by Sunwing. Why do Canadian Pilots feel the need to crap all over everyone else's place of employment? It's not a constructive debate. As for Sunwings training bond, as far as I'm aware there is no money upfront. You pay if you leave within two years, this is fairly common g...

Re: Sunwing Vacations
Co-Joe You should read the responses carefully. You are are paid expenses while deployed. In other words if you can afford your mortgage at home, you will still be able to afford it while away. Your salary is unchanged, and the expenses are more than adequate, for a comfortable stay in Europe. As fo...

Re: Sunwing Vacations
Paddy Bases are allocated via bid, and appears to go reasonably senior. The allowance is a fixed amount, and it does reasonably cover all expenses. Just as a note it is not as generous as the skyservice deal, but you will be comfortable in Europe. Unless you're a big spender, you're salary can stay ...

Re: Sunwing Vacations
FYI You are given an allowance while on deployed ops, paid in local currency (Pounds/Euros; dependent on base). This covers food, housing, transport,etc.. You will not be out of pocket while deployed, unless living larger than life. Before you ask bases this summer; Glasgow, Newcastle, Dublin, Herak...

Re: Canadians working in the EU?
Hi All I converted over 2 years ago. Had a Canadian ATPL, and a 737 type rating with time on type, prior to converting. I wish to reiterate a few points to those wishing to work in the EU. It looks like most of the respondents do not have an ATPL or a Type Rating. 1) Make sure you can actually work ...

Sparks The initial medical has to be in Europe. The cost 3 years ago if you already had an ICAO compliant class one was 250 GBP. In the UK this has to be done at Gatwick Aeromedical Centre at the CAA's palace. Can't speak for the cost in other countries of the EU. Renewals can be done in Canada. Dr....

SQ In reference to your question, I fly 737's out of LGW. Altiplano The whole type rating thing over here is mind boggling. That said, Ryanair started it, others followed. I certainly don't condone it, but it's the way the system works over here. At least, with the exception of Ryanair, most compani...

Flapless Unless you have significant PIC time on Jet Transport Aircraft(1500 hours I believe), you still have to write all fourteen exams. The UK operator I am currently employed by, paid for the sim, examiner, and CAA observer during my recurrent LPC/OPC, so I could activate my JAA ATPL. I was alre...

Wally With respect to the JAA medical, at least one done in the UK, if you hold an ICAO Class 1 medical, then the cost is "only 250 Pounds, versus 400 some odd for the full blown initial medical. The initial JAA medical has to be done in Europe, but renewals can be done elsewhere with an approved AM...

Here is a link to the CAA website, specifically LASORS, which is basically the UK licensing handbook. Most questions answers can be found there.

Have just put in the paperwork for a UK JAA ATPL. If you don't have 500 hours Multi Crew on a multicrew aircraft you will have to take the full course. Otherwise study via distance learning. I used NAC, but if I had to do it again I'd use Bristol or Oxford. More expensive, but better prepared course...

Just to clarify The initial UK medical if you have a foreign Class 1 is 250GBP, not 600GBP. The exams cost 55GBP each (14 of them). If you have a type rating, and can find a company to do IR ride in their sim during the PPC, then as long as the CAA are present to observe, voila you have a UK ATPL. I...

If you show them you can do the job, you will get PPC on the twin if a position comes available. You will do a lot of flying. They were V...
