Re: Twin otter on the ice

SherriffPatGarrett, that white, gold and grey with red wings Norseman is MkVI CF-EPZ sitting on the ice in front of Calm Air's water base on Eldon Lake, Lynn Lake Man. January 1971. How do I know? That is me in the red skidoo suit pre-flighting the bird. Did you ever fly a Husky in northern MB or S...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

In 1985 I spent a few weeks in Ethiopia. I flew on a B-720 from Addis to Asmara Eritrea and back to Addis the next day. I met the crew at their layover hotel and they invited me for dinner. They were all very knowledgeable and professional. The captain had trained on F86’s in the USA in 1960. He als...

Re: CNC3 Hangar Fire

Just heard that some idiot with a C172 was draining fuel from his aircraft in a hangar and he had a trouble light with an old incandescent light in it. Fuel spilled on the light and caught fire. Other owners arrived to get their aircraft out but the fire cut the power and they couldn't open their d...

Re: Advice on route across Northern Canada in late July

Where are you departing from in Alaska? I presume you are on wheels. Anyways set up an account with DHS and file an eAPIS and a flight plan for a customs stop. Also phone the customs station before your departure. I would clear customs at Whitehorse. Then follow the Alaska Hwy to Fort St. John BC CY...

Re: L1011

I flew as a passenger on the L1011 several times and managed to visit the cockpit as well in the 1970’s-1980’s. On July 25 1985 I flew from YYZ-LHR on a L1011. On the next day after a short layover in LHR I boarded the Concorde and flew to JFK and OSH. One way fare on the Concorde for that flight wa...

Re: Flying into USA

I have flown several times from the Winnipeg area to and from International Falls, Piney-Pinecreek, and Minot on wheels. Also did a few flights on floats to US Customs at Crane Lake MN and then to Sandpoint Ont for CAN Customs at the north end of Crane Lake. Usually went quite smooth and simple. Onl...

Re: What was your longest non stop flight?

Well I can’t even come close to the other posters but here are a couple of flights I did:

Cessna 180 on floats Ft. St.John to Flin Flon 6:00.
Cessna 180 on wheels Yuma AZ to Gillette WY 6:40. Then stuck in a blizzard for 3 days at the Gillette Super 8 waiting to go to YWG.

Re: 10 years prop inspection due

On our Cessna 180....any outfit you would recommend in the Edmonton or Calgary area? What is the average cost of the 10 years inspection if no snags encountered? Thanks Do you have the Mcaulley model 66 prop? I had mine done 10 years ago at a cost of about $3500.00. Nothing wrong with it. So now 10...

Old Prop

Hi,
I am trying to identify a prop. I think it is off a Fleet Finch 16B. I can’t attach the pic.
Prop has a diameter of 92”. Info on the hub says Kinner B5, date June 1941.

Thanks,

Was it Kenting or ? that used Mosquito's for photo survey's across the north in the late 40's early 50's...as I recall back in the summer of 96 hauling pallets of what I thought was junk out of YRT ,until I had a closer look and realized there was a Merlin engine among the junk....all pieces of a M...

Re: KENTING

I think there is a Kenting DC 3 parked out on the tundra about 40-50 miles NE of YFB, I heard the story was that it crashed landed after running out of fuel on the way down from Clyde River(?) around 1974-75 (nobody got hurt). You might want to track down any older Borek or First Air pilots who mig...

Re: Air Canada lands again

Many years ago I was landing at a busy Canadian Airport. 2 man crew. It was my turn to fly. On the flare after I closed the throttles the the other pilot says: Say, did we get landing clearance? I says, Boy I don’t remember. Too late now. After touchdown and rollout Tower says cleared to land. Perfe...

I have been looking for specs on the CB-7A engine. Cannot find anything.
It was 800 hp. Probably some derivative of the R1820.

Re: Fairchid Husky

Could there have been another engine mod in mind. I was on the fringes of the deal, Barney lent me to Harrison for a cpl weeks and I can remember the husky being in gimli and the bottom line was they were getting together for an engine mod, this was circa 1974, maybe it was a conversion to replace ...

Re: Fairchid Husky

The last data I have on SAQ is that it was donated to CMFT in 1976. I saw it at Crescent Beach about 1985. As for EIR my files says it was written off in 1977 at Council Bluffs, BC . The remains may be with the Bush Pilots Museum in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

I certainly hope authorities raise the wreckage, extract what remains are left and give the victims a proper burial! Flat bottom lake ....40-50 ft of clear water and minimal current.....I don't buy the safety argument! Sad that brother Morris and other deceased family members didn't get closure! Eat...

Here is Husky serial # 2 C-GCYV at Vancouver. Original reg was CF-EIL. In August 1984 I was asked to help get her back in shape and ferry to Winnipeg.
