Re: DEC

Add some virtual (or better yet, real ones) bases, so people can live in CYQT, CYWG, CYOW etc. They would have much more applicants. For an airline, adding some confirmed seats on the planes should not be excessively expensive. I am really curious about this. Why is it that companies don't offer gu...

Re: Airline lifestyle

Thanks for all the replies. It has definitely been the main discussion with my wife since the interview. I think that is the main concern. To be more specific, I live on Vancouver Island. The best case scenario would be based in YVR and then the commute would more manageable. Lots of options to and ...

Airline lifestyle

I've recently had an interview for what would be my first airline job. My goal was never to chase metal and when I started flying as a career it was never my intention to head to the airlines. But at this moment in time, I have been presented with a great opportunity. My main cause for hesitation th...

Re: Transport Canada - Betrayal and fatigue

And once the new watered down to appease industry fatigue rules do come in to effect, isn't TC going to allow company's to implement some sort of BS fatigue management program to get around the rules...basically set up some sort of internal company training program so you will be "educated" about f...

Re: Thinking about stepping away from the game for a bit

Thanks for the reply,

The way I read it, I would be entitled to leave, unpaid at this point, but still entitled if I were to choose to take it. Whether its a good idea or not remains to be seen. But family time like this won't ever be available again.

Re: Thinking about stepping away from the game for a bit

Bringing up an old thread here as I was looking for information about this exact question. Does anyone know how the new parental leave policies of 18 months work if my partner has taken the benefits. The Canadian labour code says we are entitled to 78 weeks of leave of which I think 13 is maternity ...

Re: Nizus - ATPL Feedback

I loved it. Used nizus, sharper edge, . and the classic From the Ground Up. The benefit of nizus is it gets you actually using the information you're studying in an exam situation. You start thinking about it rather than just reading it over and over. And it corrects the exam and explains what you g...

Re: A President’s Message and a must read

Man. This really bothers me. PASCO is advertising all the time for openings and from what I have heard they were (and are?) a good company to work for. And I have often thought it would be great to head back to the lower mainland for work. But again and again, I come to the idea of making $35000 liv...

Re: Commuting YYJ to YVR

I know this is in regards to AC but wondering how it works between JAzz and AC pilots trying this commute? Do Jazz employees get higher priority or is it the other way around? How about on Encore or Pasco. I assume its first come first served? Seems like there would be lot of commuters but there is ...

Re: Tintina Air info

All the pilots I have met there are super friendly. Haven't met the owner but have heard only good things. The flying in the Yukon is amazing. You work hard but if you like flying and you don't mind long days it would be a fantastic job. Whitehorse has most of the stuff you'd find in a big city whil...

Re: Can you switch fleet types?

Bit of a thread drift.
If you want to bid RP as a new hire, is it a pretty good chance you will get that?
And could you just sit as a RP in the 777/787 for 10-15 years-ish and then hold enough seniority to bid FO on the same aircraft?

I appreciate the replies.
Was looking for some sort of confirmation of basic terms I have read throughout the forums.
Hopefully this will come in handy for other "newbies".
Merry Christmas.

Basic AC information for beginners

Good day all, Forgive me if this information is on this thread already but I cannot find the information I am looking for in a neat little package. I never really considered going to the airlines until recently. I always figured I would stay in the bush or find a small company and stay somewhere sma...

Re: 2018 General Hiring Outlook

It is really interesting time to be at a 703/704 operation. Talking with some of the lower time guys regarding their future, they are almost spoiled for choice. They aren't worried about if they will be able to move on but rather debating the merits of multiple options. It feels great to see young g...

Re: CONAIR questions

I have not worked there so take what I have to say with a grain of salt, but I talked to one of their pilots a few times this summer in social settings. I think you are essentially on call at all times and have to be ready to head out within a reasonably short period of time. The pilot I talked to t...

Re: IFR flight itinerary

I have read through this thread and have a question that I am not sure was answered. FOrgive me if it was but it isn't clear to me. If you are operating out of an uncontrolled airport, flying the whole day in uncontrolled airspace with landings and takeoffs out of dirt strips and finishing the day a...

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

I assume anyone complaining about a low cost airline never buys anything from Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy etc....The general public wants to pay less. For everything. And fair enough. But the byproduct of that is cutting wages. Retail jobs have taken a nose dive in pay, benefits and working conditions...

Re: A plug for blundstones

Best boots I have ever owned. My family owns two shoe stores that sell all leather shoes. What you want to treat them with is a mink oil. Make sure you really rub it on. Its like moisturizing you skin. The better you treat the boots, the longer they last. Especially if they get wet a lot. The leathe...
