Re: What kind of seniority does it take to have good money & schedule at AC?
This all has to be viewed through the lens of airline flying taken in it's entirety is a job with a terrible schedule. 24/7/365, somebody has to do the work. You need to NOT be the newest, lowest guy to get a good airline schedule, which by regular job standards still basically stinks. Working insid...

Looks like I’m keeping just over 40% of mine. Insane country we have here. I’ve just paid more in tax than I made in my first two years of flying combined. Is this what success feels like.

Re: Reasons to come to Air Canada (… or not)
New hire pay is the dumbest, most stubborn, cockroach of an issue in the entire industry. We’ll be arguing about this forever. Take it, or leave it. Those are the choices.

Prepare to discover the hidden hundreds of millions you didn’t think they had. It’s there. Life comes at you fast. $250k is the new $100k. Elementary school teachers make $110 now, wake up.

Re: Pilot unity will get results
Just close the base already, to have 50 pilots with this much influence over our entire group is insane. Short of that we need (another) overhaul of our representation structure. This is outrageous. Guaranteed there was pressure placed that YWG would close, and that secured the votes. Smart move by ...

This entire thing is pennywise on the part of the airline. The rest of the industry is responding to changes in the market and we are ultimately choosing not to. Despite the union's "demands" or really pleadings, we were so far unable to drag management into the current world as it exists today. And...

Re: Play The Long Game
I’d support a new hire pay matrix based on experience level. I would like to attract other airlines’ captains, sure. But we also need a mix of newer, younger people as well. Because when older, experienced pilots start afresh, they can become frustrated by the lack of progression that inevitably com...

Re: Want American Salaries? Move to America
Allegedly there are low single digits of pilot applicants on file that meet Air Canada's stated minimum requirements. Requirements that have been dropping for 10 years. Post secondary education? No longer required. 4000 flight hours? Try 2000. Multi engine experience? No. And AC needs to hire...500 ...

Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
All of the external factors are moot, at this point. The economy, pilot shortages, surveys, benchmarking data; to my mind all of that is/was in support of negotiations, ie. in a mutually respectful manner, hearing out each other’s cases and coming to an agreeable solution for both sides. Due to- fac...

What’s the point of a Captain if not to prevent these totally avoidable and often predictable situations. Think of the passengers, do they want to be in Random, NB just because the SOC manager wanted you to launch? Of course he wants you to. The SOC manager, by the way, is a yes-man. As is every oth...

TheStig the reason I didn’t include rouge was because I was lazy, and only used data I collected myself 2006-2022. Which I cited. And then I took JoeyBarton at his word with the 2024 and 2025 numbers. Regardless, I think it’s useful to look in hindsight at the trend and note that OBVIOUSLY the main ...
