I've always found that slips are effective... Hopefully you're using a 172 or variant... Kicking the rudder around to move the strut fore or aft will help also. Well, let's look at this big-picture... Taking a tour through commonly-asked questions is great if all you want to do is pass the exam. And I'd never knock Aerocourse, I've heard great things about them. Albeit I've never found a need to attend a course. Would you rather be operated on by the doctor...

Flight training at CYYT circa 1996 there were 5 aircraft in the circuit for 29. For those not familiar with St. John's you CAN'T extend your downwind by a few miles because it would put you outside glide and over the Atlantic.
