Re: Garmin D2 Bravo released!

Wife got me one for a gift! Very happy with it. Not so much for the navigation (still handy) but it's also a great fitness watch. Lots of apps seem to be coming out recently as well. E-mails and texts on the face are nice and the GPS locks quickly. I like it! :)

Re: Register & Test your 406 ELT!

Good info on here. I'm one who kept the 121 when I built my plane. Also carry a Spot and it seems very accurate... bonus my wife tracks me when flying so she finds that nice too. We had a TC dude at one of our flying club meetings a few years back and although he wasn't sure, but had a feeling that ...

Re: Confederation College, Thunder Bay

Not sure about now, but back in the day they washed out 2/3rd's of the class after first year! A few were lacking the skill to fly but aced the accounting programs and were kept in, if you flubbed the accounting classes you got the boot no matter what. Still couldn't figure out why you needed all th...

Re: Lithium Ion Batteries are coming to your aircraft

The 787 had lithium from the start I believe They did, and the entire fleet was grounded because the batteries like to get a little toasty. They are still having issues with them apparently. L-ion is the way to go though. More power less weight. The newer versions, at least from the company I bough...

Re: Lithium Ion Batteries are coming to your aircraft

Got one in my amateur built. An "EarthX" battery. About two lbs and the size of can of tobacco. LOVE it and no issues at all. Spins my lycoming like a top! About time GA starts getting these.

Re: Now you too can own a piece of the Gimli Glider

36 BUCKS??!!?? For a quarter size piece of aluminum skin? It would be sweet to have, but not that sweet. I know they are probably trying to recoup some loss but geez... They probably would have sold more at a reasonable 10$ each and still made 1000% profit...

Re: Low time engine.

One of the wonderful things about Lycoming engines is that they rarely have a catastrophic failure that will turn you into a glider. I had a Supercub fly in here many years ago for a restoration and the cam was so worn down from corrosion that the valves would barely open! It still flew in. It turn...

Re: 0-320, no fly 4 6mo. Best procedure to identify corrosio

Hmmm that would change things... 15 hours a year... just over an hour a month... not much. Was it always just put away all the time with no preservation? I'd pull a jug, especially if it's a Lycoming, you'll need to anyways to see the cam. I wouldn't bother with an oil inspection at this stage, you ...

Re: 0-320, no fly 4 6mo. Best procedure to identify corrosio

WOW!!! Is it sitting out in the rain with no plugs in it??? People panic a lot for things like this but honestly 6 months parked, especially if it has single weight oil isn't that bad... I doubt anything would have happened, unless they were ground only running the engine for the six months!...

$210.00 an hour for dual...? I forgot how expensive getting instruction on a rental is now-a-days... :(

Nice that places are still getting good word of mouth though... seems like I read of a lot of places lately getting crappier reviews!

Nobody in GA is living a glamorous life From what I saw 20 years ago this was, and I'm assuming, still is, true! Which is why I got out of GA. Still miss it, a lot some times but I don't regret the move, neither does my family. I really don't miss it when I'm thinking about the times I was at some ...

Re: Aviation Medical Costs

Thiebert now charges $80 and for the ECG he sends you to this Life Labs place that charges $35. So $115 all in plus parking at both places. Anywhere cheaper in Tbay now? What's Trusdale charge and does he have an ECG machine? Nope, he sent me to LifeLabs for the EKG. Charges 100$, at least he did a...

Re: What actually happens in an ovherhaul.

Gotta agree with the rip-off prices, not in the AME salary (expertise is something you want when rebuilding an engine) that builds it but the parts!!! I've rebuilt a lot of engines, airplanes included and NO bloody way should anything based on 60 year old tech have any reason to be this damn expensi...

Currently -CH750

Bucket List -Beaver ( Yes I like low and slow)

Got my dream job when I left aviation, but if I was still in it, flying said Beaver on floats! :)

But I'd also love a helicopter gig!

Re: Paying the cost of flying

Never had a problem with what AME's charge for labor. Problem is airplanes ARE expensive! There are some small ways to cut the costs but regardless it's still prohibitively expensive. I thought going amateur built would curtail the costs... nope! Not for the initial outlay anyways... I will save on ...
