Re: How will Immediate roadside prohibition affect career as an airline pilot ?
Hello, I recently got a Immediate roadside prohibition in BC, Canada for refusing a breathalyzer at a check stop. I was planning on attending flight school this July, but now I have to reconsider due to this being on my driver's abstract for the next 5 years. I have researched online about people h...

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-flair-airlines-reduce-flights/ Post the article if it's behind a paywall next time. Maybe try to avoid misinformation through vague titles, they're not done yet. Flair Airlines cuts over 600 flights as it faces multimillion-dollar financial woes Flai...

Re: 704 CA or 705 FO ?
I think going either 704 Captain or 705 FO would be good experience for your application to AC. A 705 might be a better option as it might be a good place to stay if AC doesn't work out. Westjet is currently filling spots for their YVR base. But honestly, getting those 2000 hours TT should be a prio...

Re: You will be handed your STRIKE FUND shortly.
I highly doubt a strike would last more than a few days. Anything longer than a week would cause significant financial and brand damage to the company. They know they've been getting a deal on pilot labour for decades, so I have no doubt they'll cave and pay the international market rate for pilots,...

Re: New hire bids
How many flights per day does Jazz having departing Yyc? I think as of now, it’s only 8 scheduled flights a day on the Q. All the RJ Flying starts with deadheads to Vancouver or Toronto. Crazy to think that YYC used to be one of the largest/fastest growing bases, and had close to 40 flights a day a...

Re: ATC Failure - Alaska Airlines - Horrible ATC service
Maybe they didn't use Mayday because they didn't see the situation as being life threatening. The recording i heard was the pilot stating they depressurized. What does Mayday stand for? Mayday is the word used around the world to make a distress call via radio communications. Mayday signals a life-...

Re: What's with all the geeks on the street at Pearson
Lots and lots of guys still on probation too that aren’t wearing the new lanyards. That being said, the title and original post reek of someone trying to troll. Do you really believe AC would fire a new hire for wearing an ALPA lanyard? The red one? Yep. The blue one? No. Don’t underestimate the le...

Re: Commuting from YVR
Does anyone know if a jumpseat agreement is in the works with other alpa carriers? It would definitely help with the commute at morningstar or cargojet if you could travel on AC/WJ/Porter. Fedex and UPS have always had jumpseat agreements so I'm curious as to why nothing has been established at the ...

Re: Air Canada slashing routes out of Calgary in face of ongoing pilot shortage
What does the schedule look like on the RJ out of YYC without scheduled flights from base? Are there lines you can bid for that start with a DH to another base or is it just pure reserve and you just fill in at whichever base is short staff? Seems like slim pickings on the Q as well, but YYC/YVR se...

The guy was an Alaskan Airlines pilot commuting on company metal to SFO to start his pairing. He could have easily done this while operating his own flight if he was so keen. Banning jumpseaters would not address the issue at hand at all, it's a mental health problem, and something TC and the FAA sh...

Re: Bidding for base is only after getting hired?
If we unfortunately are assigned to a base far away from home, is there any way to be put back into the talent pool for the next batch of training? If we do get assigned away, how long does it roughly take to transfer back to YVR? Once you're hired and assigned an aircraft and base, there's no way ...

No RJ departures out of YYC at all and few Q departures. Are you sure you know what you are talking about? I know for a FACT that there are crj departures out of yyc on the regular..... If you're referencing the AC timetable; don't it's been wrong post COVID (still shows aircraft types no longer fl...

Yea the mods should really put a limit on how often those companies can spam their job postings. Maybe if their wages weren't bottom of the barrel, they wouldn't have to post so often. And seeing as how they don't even want to pay to have their ads stickied to the top really shows how cheap those op...

Re: Jazz Base Consolidation
Will jazz consolidate its bases into YYZ and YUL, due to self created staffing issues and a focus on eastern canada flying? Jazz still has a huge presence out west in YVR, I could definitely see Jazz consolidating the YYC base into YVR with the lack of flying and number of recent resignations. Or a...

Yea it's the pilots responsibility to get to work. Try for a couple flights and if you can't make it in, they'll take you off your pairing. If it becomes a consistent issue where you're missing work often, then you could be subject to disciplinary action. That's what they told me during the interview

Re: Negotiations
PS; I would much prefer to keep my seniority at Jazz, the AC merger scenario does not likely improve my situation, perhaps the benefit of knowing I’m not going to be unemployed again 10 years from retirement but that’s about it. In the event that AC absorbed Jazz, even if AC pilots aren't willing t...

How about Jazz alpa? big win incoming? Jazz alpa already came to an agreement with Jazz Management and when it was presented to AC management, they refused to rubberstamp the deal so it's currently dead in the water. Alpa did their job, it's AC that's refusing to allow any gains at Jazz,...
