Re: Georgian RJ's

I am sure flight schools would love this idea.... And who gets the yay or nay when it comes to being granted a "pass" for being eligible to learn how to fly if regulated by the college? I bet education will play a big part. The problem here is being book smart is a completely different skill set fro...

Re: Employability outside of flying...

I just read this OPs first thread. A lot of positive insight, was actually a very good read. I would hang in there man, it is not uncommon to really enjoy your first gig, post instructing. You might actually enjoy it, work your way up and eventually make a good wage, if it is away from home, possibl...

Layoff/furlough

All this talk about AT laying off the hiring again I was interested (for the 704/705 drivers) In knowing how many of you have been laid off before and if so, for how long? Did it take a while getting used to being back in the cockpit/two crew environment? I have fortunately never been laid off, but ...

Re: What happens when you can't read the big E

I am quite happy with glasses personally, I was more curious as to how it works if you don't meet the uncorrected standard. With glasses I am better than 20/20...without...that will be the problem I think eventually lol (and TC website says there is still the need for 20/200 uncorrected) Has anyone ...

What happens when you can't read the big E

Hey all, Usually there is another letter up front which puts a little more guess work into the big E lol. But how many of you (specifically Commercial pilots) have bad uncorrected vision and can't even read 20/200? I know that is the cut off for uncorrected vision...just wondering if this standard h...

Still fly GA?

Wondering how many airline guys still fly general aviation, whether it be owning, renting, working in their spare time. To those that do, do you find it challenging to going from the controlled/fast/automated world....to something much slower and basic

Next you take him and put him on Citation X and expect him to manage aircraft energy on a sharp STAR with n/o spoilers and with no VNAV assistant – good luck. So learning energy management depends on how well you adapt to glass? Anyone with the willingness to learn from the guy beside him transitio...

Can an ATC'er answer this please and thank you (if there is a reason) Like mentioned by the OP, I guess the runway I'll actually get (so I can throw it in the FMS) but wondered why it is not issued in the clearance sometimes.

Re: Does your airline outsource it's pilot jobs to foreigner

All this fight and stress over which pilots/which airline has the absolute pleasure of taking the 20 year-old sleaze (most of which arrive at the airport looking like they just got out of bed) down to Cuba on her 750.00 redtag.ca vacation. Air travel sure has changed. In 100 years we won't need to g...

Re: ECG after initial Cat1

My question was about the ECG at 30. The regs using the word preced for some reason messes me up. Does it have to be done at your first medical when you are 30? Thx

ECG after initial Cat1

I have read the regs, for some reason "preceding" gets me mixed up. (b) within the two years preceding the examination between ages 30 years and 40 years; and (c) within the 12 months preceding the examination after age 40. Does this mean that I have to do an ECG the next time I go for a medical and...

Urgent passport renewal

I am sure some pilots here have had to do a rush passport do to the nature of traveling. For those that have done an urgent/emergency passport renewal (24 hours) are you to pick it up when it's complete or do they mail the urgent ones out too. I would call and ask...but it's Sunday. Thanks!

Re: Class 1 Medical Exam (Vision)

So you need 20/30 in each eye, corrected or un-corrected? Didn't your vision have to be 20/20 at one point?

ie. 20/30 in one eye, but 20/20 both eyes open?

Relief Pilots

I know most new hires either go on to the EMB (or used to) or relief pilot on a wide body. What do most seem to prefer? Do relief pilots get to touch the controls at all? Would be a nice way to see the world, but does it seem to rust flying skills, or is there adequate training to prevent this. Just...
