Re: Saskatoon overrun?

We landed (WJ 737) right before the Q400 and had no problem stopping in about 5500', so if they were planning on exiting at the end, they probably assumed the braking would be just as good where they were planning to exit as it was on the runway (fair assumption). Looks like a case of "not quite as ...

Re: 2014 Hiring

Beings that YYC is the most Junior F/O base, I doubt you'll be based anywhere but there to begin with, making the whole hotel, perdiem issue a moot point... There's a least a dozen (or two) of us in YYC that couldn't hold YYZ, so as soon as YYZ spots open up, they will be filled by those of us "in ...

Re: WestJet Technical Exam

On my interview last year (November) it was all closed-book questions. 10 multiple choice, one "long" answer. Have they changed it back to open book?

I was told by one of our CPs that the overhead panel will be addressed to a certain extent. Lets hope they get rid of the icicles!

Yes, YYC is the only base right now. YYZ should be running next spring/summer from what I've been told.

I hear ya, CAL! I look for a good gym and a quiet room that has a fridge and microwave. Bonus would be a mom and pop shawarma or breakfast joint near by. Fast wifi is nice too...makes facetiming with the family a lot more enjoyable!

I love YXS! No joke! Nice hotel, amenities nearby, golf course across the street, reliable transportation, etc.

Re: College of Pilots

I will be renewing without thinking twice. This is a chance to start a small snowball down the hill that could bring great change in the medium- to long-term. Expecting short-term "rewards" is absolutely ridiculous! It's $5/month people!!!! My union dues when I left Jazz were TWELVE TIMES that. Lets...

Re: Commuting at Encore

The "no skipping deadheads" is completely wrong (at mainline, anyway). It may be worded that way somewhere, but we do it all the time. We even have an online form that we submit to crew sched when we want to change or cancel our deadheads. We can bid to start/finish with a DH for the very purpose of...

Re: WJHR: Multi-PIC?

If it helps, I got on without 500 MPIC. I had 1500 hours PIC, but most was on the PC-12 and the rest on the King Air 100. Good luck!

Re: Question

At WJ we don't allow "green on green". Capt or F/O must have 300 hours in their seat to fly with a newbie in the other seat. This a company thing, seems to be stricter than the CARs.

I'll second that, CanadaEH! We have it VERY good at WJ! Sure there are things that aren't perfect, and some issues that need to be addressed, but who doesn't?? For everyone who shows me one of our problems, I'll show you two problems at another airline. Some people will just never be happy....they n...

Re: Jumpseat Priority

The etiquette I refer to is simply saying thank you to the captain for the ride, rather than acting like he owes you a ride because your company offers him the same courtesy. And it is just that, professional courtesy. And I was taught as a child that when someone is courteous towards you, you thank...

Re: Jumpseat Priority

As for me trying to "sneak" into the j/s, I know the time you're taking about. The agent was the one who asked for me, I did not initiate the request at all. I think he either didn't know I was at WJ, or didn't know the j/s rules. I told him afterward that I couldn't physically sit in the jump anymo...

Re: Jumpseat Priority

Now that I'm a jumpseater on Jazz flights I find that the agents lately have been good about asking the captain, or if its an agent I know (in YYZ or YSB) they just make me go ask. I like to go up to ask permission either way, plus it's a good way to catch up with my friends at Jazz. At WJ, I haven'...

Re: New hire future...

I'll echo what others have said.....the YQT-YYZ is very doable. Porter wasn't there when I was doing the commute, so that adds a great option (free too!). You will be a C4, but you still take first priority for the Jazz jumpseat if it comes down to it. When I did the commute (2008) it was mostly CRJ...

Send me a PM if you still need a place. I'll see if the guy that I stayed with is interested in taking you in. He lives in Airdrie, so you'll need a car as well.

Welcome to WJ!

Re: Bases announced!!

Seeing as a YYZ base will still leave me a commuter (YSB), I'm hoping that 4- and 5-day pairings still exist! Lol Waiting with baited breath to see how this plays out. After seeing how much better our management is than the other big airlines out there, I have no doubt that they'll do what's best fo...
