Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
I'm not monitoring this thread any more and will be removing my info. It was a mistake to post it here, though I won't apologize for trying to get out of a tight spot. I have indeed been working on my own to get past these challenges (including moving, new career, new training as solutions) contrary...

Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
And yeah.. maybe I don't know what its like since I got my CPL at 25... but I lost my father to alcoholism at 17 and went straight from high school to working menials jobs and getting a trade so I could pursue my dream.. and picked up a wife, house, and had a child before I got my first flying job ...

Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
These questions aren't asked, but for anyone else reading, here's what I did, as basic principles, for years and years, until eventually my business became sustainable. All of this, I learned the hard way, (digging out of debt) but it built a lifetime foundation. Had no help -- either. Just hard wo...

Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
Since this is mostly a financial question I would recommend posting on a financial forum rather than an aviation forum (you could give Mr Money Mustache a try). That being said, I believe that even in a place like victoria you should be able to get your living expenses down to around $20k/year or l...

Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
Where are you going to live when you move to your new job? In a tent? No, but for a damage deposit I'll use the one I have with my current landlord. I mean moving around, this would not be my first rodeo. I know how this all works. I'm not 18 moving away from home for the first time. I'm just sayin...

Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
I am perfectly mobile, You missed my point. By mobile, I'm asking if you can move to another location to start a job? If the answer is no, then getting your CPL done, isn't going to improve your station in life. You'll then have spent money and time doing that, and find yourself without a job again...

Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
So, what do you actually still need to do for your CPL? Have you done your flight test yet? How much instrument time do you need? Pacific Sky has a $30/hr sim (+$65/hr for instructor), which is the cheapest way of getting instrument time. Up to 10 hours of sim time counts towards the dual requireme...

Re: Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
Not sure if this has occurred to you or not, but even if you do finish your CPL, do you think you're going to be in a better spot? If you're this hard up financially you got to look at getting your head above water before going further. You already have hinted at what you need to do - get a trade. ...

Last hope from a desperate aviatior-in-training
Deleted personal information and posts. Please do not ask for funding help through any money raising service here, trust me. If you want to fly, get off your computer and talk to real people. Work for it & save your pennies. But if I can suggest something, don't go into debt and make sure you have t...

Re: West coast pics
It was just taken with my HTC One M7 phone. Only 4MP cam, but it did much better than I thought it would. Once I finish paying for my CPL I'll invest in a real DSLR.

Re: West coast pics
I hope I'm not stealing the thread, but wanted to share mine from the victory lap flight. I was going to post the photos, but they were not uploading. Here is a google drive link instead. Little brother doesn't like flying, and 4th last pic is a photo of the house (sort of) that I grew up in. Just o...

I grew went to elementary on Galiano, Highschool in Ucluelet, and live in Victoria. My one non-training related X-Country flight was YYJ to YAZ, my victory lap after gaining my PPL. I love living in this area and really want to work around here with my CPL one day. Thanks for sharing! I just got ba...

As well as can be expected. Lynda is great. I had not seen Don in my last couple visits, until a few weeks ago. I had made a comment to Lynda that I wanted to say hello and thank you to him when I picked up my PTR. So I think he made the effort. When did you finish the course? I fought to get the fu...

Vital Aviation Arizona Desert Camp
These are the raw, unfiltered photos I took this time last year with the Nokia 1020 smartphone (mostly, some from my nexus 5). One would think I would have more but I was there to learn more than take pictures. I had a hell of a good time buzzing around the south in old 172s that did not even have G...

Re: 300 Nm Trip
I flew to Parker Arizona for three months last year as a fresh PPL, and flew back with 95% of my CPL time. Ironically this wasn't my 300 as I did that from Havasu to Douglas. Anyway it was gorgeous. Did the coast down and the interior back (passing Vegas), going through a pass just south of Seattle....

As a 194 hour pilot, and a smartphone sales rep for the last 15 years, I'll tell you that most of these apps are written in the US and Europe where there is a lot more unlimited (or at least high amounts of) data included in plans. That said, there are a few flight planning apps with have offline st...
