Re: Float training + Hour building
I'm not sure about costs currently, but would recommend looking into Fort Langley Air or Air Hart, both in British Columbia. Check out the following Advisory Circular regarding the FLVC. https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/reference-centre/advisory-circulars/advisory-circular-ac-no-400-003 "When the pi...

Re: Returning after 3 hiatus
Your friend will have to comply with the currency/recency requirements of the CARS, listed in 401.05. The 5 year requirement in 401.05 (1) is covered, assuming she acted as PIC in the last 5 years. The 2 year and 6 month requirements would be covered by the training programs carried out in a 703/4/5...

Re: Failure Modes of Flight Test
It might be useful for you to take a look at the Pilot Examiner Manual. While it doesn't address the "failure modes" per se, it does lay out with a bit more specificity what is expected for each item on each type of flight test. It also has additional information beyond that found in the flight test...

Re: HELP NEEDED. SHOULD I GO WJ MAINLINE?
I also would have though Jazz would be better in the long run and given better QOL with senority bidding. Also probably more opportunity for management type positions. Correct me if im wrong but WJ has social bidding not senority bidding? Curious to heasr peoples thoughts. I was planning on making ...

Re: Circuits and can you glide to a suitable landing...
Nothing prevents you from "redrawing" the circuit, so long as you maintain a position which allows you to keep traffic ahead in sight. I used to do this all the time as an instructor at Boundary Bay in Vancouver. Aircraft ahead would be a 172 flying a 747 pattern, and I'd just fly my normal circuit...

Re: Building “total time” on advanced ultralights
You can also count 50 hours of ultralight time towards the 1500 hour requirement for an ATPL, as per CARS 421.32 (6)(b). This only applies to 3-axis control ultralights, not weight-shift, rudder-aileron linkage, etc. I think these experience credit restrictions are a bit antiquated, but come from a ...

Re: Gear for moving and working up north?
Spent a couple winters up in Yellowknife. Highly recommend Watson "Red Baron" gloves. You can get them at marks. Good down to about -30, -40 with a thin wool liner inside. Won't fall apart when saturated with engine oil, should last a season...

https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/licensing-pilots-personnel/flight-crew-licences-permits-ratings/licensing-foreign-pilots#airline The link above describes the process for converting a foreign ATPL to a Canadian ATPL. You do not require a valid Phillipine medical, you must obtain a Canadian Category ...

Re: FAA to TC hours problem
Depends on what your intentions are going forward. Are you planning on applying for higher licenses or ratings? If you only fly recreationally then it is a moot point. My take would be that the hours obtained with an instructor on board should be logged as dual. If you log as PIC, but indicate that ...

Re: ICAO ATPL TO TC ATPL
Well briefed, thank you. Just one more question about attending flight school. Can I do the multi-IFR training test and rating together on a FFS simulator that I want the rating on, like Q400 sim? As far as I can tell, the answer is no. CAR's 421.34 (5) (a) Within the 12 months preceding the date o...

Re: Class 2 Instructor written
The Class 2 written has a bit more of a focus on class 4 supervision requirements and CFI responsibilities. Basically they are testing you on the new priveliges you will obtain with the higher rating. Other than that, my recollection is that it has much of the same content as the Class 4 written. I ...

Re: How many hours a week did you fly during your PPL training?
Five to seven flights a week until solo, and additional study time each day. This should continue until ground school and written exam are done. After that, hours will come quickly in the cross-country stage. In work-up to flight test more frequent flying is a good idea. You only need 45 hours of fl...
