Re: Poor condition of runway surfaces as a cause of plane crashes
Skybrary.aero accident browser is also a good resource. Usually it will be listed as a contributing factor. There have been a few in Ottawa on 07/25. WestJet,and a couple Erj 145s. Not directly related but in 2015 delta md 88 in LaGuardia, Indonesia and the Caribbean have some as well. Again usually...

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
No. Maximum power was applied to one or both engines, and the landing gear was initially selected up and then re-selected down before it could fully retract. The crew declared an emergency with Kenora FSS and unsuccessfully attempted to initiate a climb. https://www.tsb.gc.ca/eng/rapports-reports/av...

Re: Grievance update for the 285ish former Jazz pilots affected by Flow
I am sorry if you went to Jazz expecting a job at the mainline however, another consideration here is the fact that Jazz hires pilots with minimal experience. I was hired at AC in early 2023 with thousands of hours of experience including 737 left seat time. I get it, I am an outlier here, but I'd ...

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
As mentioned it can be an unforgiving aircraft. Usually the place it will bite is ground control. I’m not sure statistically how it fairs against its peers. Keep in mind the environment it is flown in is generally a tough one, so that can make it seem worse.

Re: Take-off Configuration after Type 4
It will definitely run off. Not instantly, but over a couple of mins the coverage won’t be sufficient on flaps and slats if precip is falling. I’ve had to go back to spray because the wind blew off the type 4 well before the high time limit. Edit to add. I agree that on the horizontal stab there wou...

Re: Flair/Lynx Merger
I have zero affiliation with Flair but I find it funny. Every time people say Flair is done (are they really Canadian? planes being seized ect) sure enough.......they still keep flying. That’s called survivorship bias. It is always the case for anything… until it isn’t. For the record I’m not hopin...

Re: New hire bids
Year 1 CA pay at Jazz is around $108/hr. It tops out at $165/hr after 17 years. Porter E195 CA STARTS at $190/hr. There is no way Jazz will get qualified DEC with that compensation. Not even close. They will get King Air CA. But a King Air CA is not qualified to fly an E175 in to LGA, a CRJ in to Y...

Re: Take-off Configuration after Type 4
For the aircraft I’ve flown, it is usually centred or within the takeoff range. Generally full up or down isn’t good as you will dump all the type 4 off the horizontal stab. Unless it’s an md 80 or something. Some set position at the gate, and some with the before takeoff checklist after deicing. I ...

Re: How long until you hear back from AC?
Which March date was cancelled? Are they still running classes every 2 weeks? No. It was mentioned in the last webinar that a March groundschool was cancelled and may continue some months moving forward. What was the reason? The reason given, was that they want to consolidate to larger classes as o...

Re: How long until you hear back from AC?
Anyone hear of ppl getting calls recently? lots of Jazz folks through the interview now, odd they wouldn't fill those empty classes up... Yes for April G/S we are only hiring 600 ish pilots this year..... ground school's will be lumpy, training dept is a max capacity.... the company doesn't want to...

Re: Ready To Strike
As it stands, according to LRD, strike pay isn’t taxed (although that could change).
So for some of our newer pilots, it could indeed be a raise. However, there must be a cumulative of 14 days strike before being eligible.

You nailed it... See you in about 15 years after you give up on life in the sand pit. Once has to ask why veteran Emirates are joining Air Canada these days.... You sound like some boomer who spent a career deep throating management which turned this profession into a joke. Then because 10 Emirates...

Re: Is the ACPA Motto: "We will get'em next time" gone?
This move from the MEC makes no sense. All it does is drag the process out mean while we are getting paid the same and under the same conditions. While they keep labour cost low. Also there is a good chance of no retro active pay. The company is winning lol. If an impass is called June 1st. We woul...

Re: It can be Helpful to Check the Cabin Altitude During the Climb
How about just quickly ensuring the switches are in the normal position before going to the QRH. In this case the crew thought there was a malfunction (there wasn't), wasted time with the wrong checklist and were probably confused about what was going on. They had missed turning the bleeds on. http...
